  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Not in lineup Friday

Hoskins (hand) is not in Friday's lineup against the Padres.

Hoskins was hit by a pitch on his right hand Thursday against the Cubs and ultimately remained in the game, but he'll apparently need at least one day on the bench after receiving X-rays following Thursday's game. Logan Morrison will handle the duties at first base, batting sixth.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Padres' Ty France: Returns to big leagues

France was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

He will return to the majors with Fernando Tatis (back) and Ian Kinsler (neck) landing on the injured list, after France spent the last two-plus months at Triple-A . According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, the Friars will test him at second base while Luis Urias fills in at shortstop for Tatis. France played exclusively at third base during his first stint in the majors this season, but he's been seeing occasional work at the keystone with El Paso this season.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Remains out Friday

Votto (back) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Votto was scratched from Thursday's lineup with lower back tightness and he'll remain on the bench for at least one more contest. Josh VanMeter will start again at first base in his place Friday, batting second.

  • Braves' Freddie Freeman: Blasts two homers in loss

Freeman went 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs and two walks in the Braves' 10-8 loss to the Mets on Thursday.

Freeman just keeps raking in his age-29 season, as he's now hit safely in eight of his last 10 games coming off this two-homer effort that saw him mash his 30th and 31st long balls of the year. The star veteran now sports an elite .311/.405/.577 slash line across 546 plate appearances.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Monster day against Braves

Alonso went 5-for-5 with a home run and six RBI in the Mets' 10-8 win over the Braves on Thursday.

The rookie's monster campaign just keeps rolling along, as he blasted his 39th home run of the season to tie Cody Bellinger's NL record for homers by a rookie. The numbers Alonso is putting up in his first big-league campaign are simply ridiculous, as he's complementing the huge power output with a strong .264/.369/.595 slash line across 511 plate appearances.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Padres' Ty France: Expected to rejoin Padres

France will be called up to the Padres on Friday to take the roster spot of Fernando Tatis Jr., Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

With Tatis headed to the injured list, France will be promoted to the big club, where he hit .235 with a pair of home runs in a 34-game stint earlier this season. The 25-year-old has fared much better with Triple-A El Paso, posting a .399/.477/.770 slash line and racking up 27 homers and 89 RBI in 76 games.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Smacks 22nd homer

Rizzo went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI on Thursday against the Phillies.

Rizzo took Drew Smyly deep in the third inning to record his 22nd home run of the season. He followed that up with an RBI single in the fourth inning, bringing his total on the season to 75. The long ball was Rizzo's first since July 27 and only his third since the All-Star break. Despite the slow stretch, Rizzo still boasts an impressive .285/.391/.509 line across 501 plate appearances for the season.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Heads for X-rays

Hoskins was sent for X-rays on his right hand following Thursday's game against the Cubs, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Hoskins was struck by a pitch on his hand during Thursday's matchup, though he managed to remain in the game. He was optimistic about his chances of playing Friday, though the team has yet to announce his test results.
