Dodgers' Matt Beaty: Homers, drives in four

Beaty went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a triple and four RBI in Tuesday's rout of the Marlins.

Beaty did all his damage late in the game, blasting a solo homer in the eighth inning and clearing the bases with a triple to center field in the ninth. The 26-year-old is enjoying a productive August, slashing .357/.419/.643 with five extra-base hits and 10 RBI in 10 games.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Pirates' Josh Bell: Crushes another homer

Bell went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in a win against the Angels on Tuesday.

Playing as the designated hitter in an American League park, Bell plated the first run of the game with a single in the third inning and slugged a two-run shot to center field in the fifth. Bell broke a 26-game home run drought with a pair of long balls Sunday and has now gone deep in both games since, raising his total to 31 on the season. He also leads the majors with 36 doubles and 98 RBI while slashing .288/.370/.601 in 497 plate appearances.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Weeks away from shedding boot

Smith (foot) is scheduled for a doctor's appointment in a few weeks, at which point he's hopeful to shed his walking boot, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Smith has been dealing with a stress reaction in his left foot since the end of July, and he's been in a walking boot since. "We're hoping the appointment goes well, and they say I can come out of the boot and once that happens hopefully I can get back quickly with no setbacks," stated Smith. A timetable for his return likely won't come into focus until after his appointment.

Pirates' Josh Bell: Goes deep again Monday

Bell went 2-for-5 with his 30th homer of the season in a 10-2 win over the Angels on Monday.

Since returning from a three-day rest period last week, Bell is 7-for-15 with three doubles, three homers (including two opposite-field shots) and six RBI. The first baseman has compiled wild monthly OPS numbers in 2019; March/April (.955), May (1.238), June (.764), July (.769) and August (1.139).

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Padres' Josh Naylor: Goes yard in loss

Naylor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a losing effort to the Rockies on Sunday.

Starting in left field for the second straight game, Naylor slugged a solo shot to center field off German Marquez in the third inning. The 22-year-old is off to a strong start in August, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with three homers and seven RBI in 10 games.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Records four hits

Goldschmidt went 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs in an 11-9 victory against the Pirates on Sunday.

The 31-year-old has absolutely crushed Pirates pitching this season, posting a .387 average with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 16 games against Pittsburgh. Goldschmidt is batting .333 with eight home runs and 18 RBI in his last 18 games, and a lot of that success has come against the Pirates -- he's 13-for-28 (.464 average) with five homers versus Pittsburgh during that stretch. Overall, he's batting .262 with 26 home runs, 62 RBI and 71 runs in 435 at-bats this season.

Pirates' Josh Bell: Goes deep twice

Bell went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in an 11-9 loss against the Cardinals on Sunday.

The 26-year-old hit his first homer since July 5 in the first inning and then added another long ball in the fifth. Bell didn't have a great June either, but he's been really struggling since participating in the Home Run Derby, posting a .188 average with only six extra-base hits in 80 at-bats since the break before Sunday. Bell is batting .284 with 29 home runs, 93 RBI and 80 runs in 422 at-bats this season.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Padres' Ty France: Lighting up Triple-A

France has 10 hits in his last 15 at-bats for Triple-A El Paso and is now hitting .406 on the season.

France's slash line is an unreal .406/.482/.790 and he has a legitimate shot to become the first minor-league player to finish a season above .400 since 1999. He has also hit for power, smashing 27 homers and 27 doubles while driving in 87 runs. France has played some second base lately and could be an option to cover the position for the Padres if Luis Urias, who is currently batting .154, continues to struggle.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Heads to bench

Walker isn't starting Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Walker will catch a breather after making six straight starts and going 8-for-22 with an RBI over that stretch. Jake Lamb will get the nod at first base and hit sixth.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Snaps out of brief slump

Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run in a win over the Pirates on Friday.

Following a record-setting tear in which he homered seven times over a nine-game period to finish off July, Goldschmidt has been mostly quiet to start August and was 0-for-14 with five strikeouts over the four games prior to Friday's, but he was able to break through against the Pirates with his first multi-hit effort since Aug. 3. Goldschmidt is still hitting just .185 this month, but perhaps Friday's success will lead to a new hot streak.
