Reds' Joey Votto: Not starting Game 2

Votto is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

Votto was expected to be back in the lineup after sitting the front end of the twin bill, but instead he will get the entire day off. Manager David Bell confirmed after the game that Votto is physically fine and that he just wanted to give him a couple of days off, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The veteran first baseman seems likely to be back in the lineup for Friday's tilt against the Cubs.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Extends hit streak to 10 games

Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with two singles and a run scored as the Padres defeated the Mariners 10-7 in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader.

Cronenworth has now hit safely in 10 consecutive games, going 15-for-38 over that span. The second baseman has his batting average up to an impressive .349 on the campaign.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Padres' Josh Naylor: On bench for Game 2

Naylor is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mariners.

Naylor went 1-for-1 before giving way to Jurickson Profar in the fifth inning of Game 1. Profar will remain in the starting lineup in place of Naylor in Game 2.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: Not starting Game 2

White (shoulder) isn't in the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Padres.

White left the first game of the twin bill with right shoulder discomfort, and he'll be on the bench for Game 2. Jose Marmolejos will start at first base in his stead.

Mariners' Evan White: Dealing with right shoulder issue

White left Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader with right shoulder discomfort, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

White was removed from the game in the bottom of the third inning after appearing to suffer the injury during an at-bat earlier in the contest. The severity of the injury isn't clear, and it's not yet known when he could return to the field.

Mariners' Evan White: Exits with apparent injury

White was removed from the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Padres with an apparent chest injury, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

White appeared to grab his chest area after an at-bat in the top of the second inning, and he was replaced by Jose Marmolejos defensively in the bottom of the third inning. It's unclear whether White will be available for the second game of Thursday's twin bill.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Diamondbacks' Kole Calhoun: Takes seat against lefty

Calhoun isn't in Thursday's lineup against the Rockies.

With southpaw Kyle Freeland on the mound for Colorado on Thursday, Calhoun will get a day off. Tim Locastro will start in right field.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Won't debut in 2020

General manager Al Avila implied that Torkelson will not make his big-league debut in 2020, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

This isn't all too surprising, as the Tigers have no reason to rush their 2020 No. 1 overall pick to the majors. In the meantime, he'll continue his development at the team's alternate camp site.

Reds' Joey Votto: Sitting out front end of twin bill

Votto is out of the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Brewers.

Votto was originally set to sit out Wednesday, but the Reds-Brewers game was one of three MLB contests postponed after players deciding to sit out in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis. Assuming Thursday's doubleheader goes on as scheduled, Votto will get a breather in the front end of the twin bill before presumably checking back in as the Reds' first baseman for the second contest.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Extends home run streak

Voit went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against Atlanta. He followed with an 0-for-3 performance in Game 2.

On a day in which the vaunted Yankees offense managed a mere two runs in 14 innings, Voit provided one of the few highlights with a solo shot to right field in the early contest. The blast marked the first baseman's fifth straight game with a homer, establishing a career best. Voit wasn't able to continue the streak in Game 2, but he still leads the Yankees with 11 home runs, 58 total bases, 21 RBI and 17 runs scored on the season.
