  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Out indefinitely with broken shoulder

The Padres placed Bogaerts on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a fractured left shoulder.

Bogaerts suffered the injury on an awkward dive Monday in Atlanta. According to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, the infielder doesn't appear to be dealing with any damage to his labrum and will avoid surgery, but he'll need significant down time for the shoulder to heal. Bogaerts intends to play again this season, perhaps by the latter part of the summer. With Bogaerts out indefinitely, Luis Arraez is likely to move off designated hitter and see more consistent playing time at second base.

  • Otto Lopez SS | MIA

Marlins' Otto Lopez: Retaining regular role at keystone

Lopez will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Lopez will stick in the lineup for the 11th game in a row, with his starting assignments Tuesday and Wednesday being especially notable in light of Tim Anderson's return from the injured list earlier in the week. Vidal Brujan has been on the bench for both games since Anderson stepped back in as the Marlins' everyday shortstop, signaling that manager Skip Schumaker is content to stick with Lopez at the keystone while the 25-year-old is wielding a hot bat. Through 16 games thus far in May, Lopez is slashing .310/.362/.524 with two home runs, two stolen bases, 10 RBI and six runs.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Resting against lefty

Turang is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

The lefty-hitting Turang finds himself on the bench for the third game in a row while the Marlins bring another southpaw (Jesus Luzardo) to the hill. Andruw Monasterio will fill in at second base for Turang.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Sitting against left-hander

Gorman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Gorman clubbed a tie-breaking, two-run home run earlier Wednesday in the completion of Tuesday's suspended game, but he will take a seat versus left-hander John Means for the regularly scheduled contest. Brendan Donovan will replace Gorman at second base.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Sitting out Wednesday

Gorman is not in the lineup for Wednesday's series finale versus the Orioles, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The lefty-hitting Gorman will take a seat for Wednesday's contest, as the Orioles are starting southpaw John Means. Gorman was excellent for the Cardinals in Tuesday's contest, which spilled into Wednesday after being suspended due to inclement weather. He went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run, an RBI double and a walk in the contest. The second baseman is now slashing .207/.303/.421 with eight homers, 21 RBI, 18 runs scored, seven doubles and a stolen base over 165 plate appearances this season.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Homers in Tuesday's loss

Estrada went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

Estrada has two homers and eight RBI while batting .333 (7-for-21) over his last five games. The second baseman is up to a .250/.275/.444 slash line with eight homers, 29 RBI, 26 runs scored and one stolen base through 48 contests. He's easily on pace to surpass the 14 homers he hit in each of the last two years, though his increased power has come with the small price of less contact and slightly poorer plate discipline -- he's posted a 3.2 percent walk rate, his lowest in four years as a Giant.

  • Nick Gonzales 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Walks it off Tuesday

Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Giants.

His second single of the night was clutch, as Gonzalez smacked a single up the middle on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 10th to bring home Michael Taylor as the phantom runner. Gonzalez took a while to adjust to the pros after being selected seventh overall in the 2020 Draft, but the 24-year-old seems to be coming into his own -- after erupting for a 1.039 OPS in 30 games for Triple-A Indianapolis prior to his promotion, he's produced a .282/.310/.462 slash line in 11 contests for Pittsburgh with two homers, one steal, five runs and nine RBI.

  • Ji-Hwan Bae 2B | NYM

Pirates' Ji Hwan Bae: Swipes bag in 2024 debut

Bae went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI on Tuesday against the Giants.

Bae began the season on the injured list and was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis upon his activation in mid-April. He started in center field Tuesday and hit ninth, bumping Michael Taylor to the bench. It's unclear how the Pirates will divide playing time in the outfield, though Rowdy Tellez could be the primary player to lose playing time with Connor Joe shifting his primary position from right field to first base.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Cranks second homer

McNeil went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and a second run scored in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Guardians.

McNeil poked a one-out double in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Francisco Lindor single. He then cut the Mets' deficit to 5-4 with a two-run homer off left-hander Sam Hentges, his second of the year. It's been a tough start to the year for McNeil, though he's shown signs of life of late, going 6-for-19 with no strikeouts in his last five games. Overall, the 32-year-old second baseman is slashing .240/.314/.329 with 18 runs scored, 12 RBI and three steals across 186 plate appearances this season.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Remains in game after injury

India suffered a left shin injury during Tuesday's win over the Padres but remained in game, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

India was hurt when he got tangled up with San Diego catcher Luis Campusano while scoring on a sacrifice fly to left. India was noticeably grabbing the shin and limped off the field but was able to finish the game. It is presumed he will be able to play Wednesday, but the Reds will likely wait to see how the shin responds overnight.
