  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Returns to big leagues

The Nationals recalled Garcia from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday. He'll start at shortstop and bat seventh in Washington's series finale with the Mets.

Since Washington placed Alcides Escobar (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move, Garcia could be in line to step in as the team's primary shortstop, with Dee Strange-Gordon representing more of a utility option than a legitimate threat for an everyday role at this stage of his career. A poor spring kept him from making the Opening Day roster, but the 22-year-old has hit his stride at the dish through the first two months of the season at Triple-A. Over 193 plate appearances with Rochester, Garcia slashed .314/.368/.531 with eight home runs and a stolen base.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Takes seat Wednesday

McNeil isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

McNeil went 3-for-4 with two runs in Tuesday's blowout win over the Nationals, but he'll get a breather in the series finale. J.D. Davis is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Remains out of lineup

Gorman (back) isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Gorman will be held out of the starting lineup for a second straight game as he continues to deal with lower-back tightness. Brendan Donovan will start at second base and lead off.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Swipes bag in loss

Lux went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Pirates.

Lux walked and stole second in the fourth inning. It was his first stolen-base attempt since April 17, and it was his third theft of the year. The 24-year-old is now 0-for-5 in his last two games, dropping his slash line to .263/.346/.336 for the season. He's posted a home run, 12 RBI, 28 runs scored, five doubles and a triple through 156 plate appearances, maintaining a regular role in the lineup with playing time at second base and in left field lately.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Pirates' Michael Chavis: Homers in return

Chavis (forearm) went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers.

Chavis opened the scoring in the first inning with a blast off Dodgers starter Julio Urias, and the Pirates never looked back. This was Chavis' first start since last Friday as he battled a forearm injury. The 26-year-old lifted his slash line to .293/.331/.500 with the two-hit effort, and he's added five homers, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored without a stolen base in 40 contests this year. With Yoshi Tsutsugo (back) and Daniel Vogelbach (hamstring) on the injured list, Chavis has a chance to see near-everyday reps at first base in the short term.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Extends hitting streak off bench

Marte went 1-for-2 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 8-7 extra-inning win over Atlanta.

Marte was initially given the day off, but he entered as a pinch hitter for Jake Hager in the seventh inning, grounding into a double play. He stayed in the game at second base and delivered a single and a stolen base in Arizona's ninth-inning rally to tie the game. Marte's hitting streak is up to 11 contests, a span in which he's gone 15-for-43 (.349). For the season, the veteran infielder is up to a .260/.325/.405 slash line with two home runs, 16 RBI, 23 runs scored and three stolen bases through 191 plate appearances.

  • Nick Gonzales 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Leaves with injury

Gonzales exited Tuesday's game with Double-A Altoona with an apparent leg injury, Jarrod Prugar of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.

Gonzales entered Tuesday's matchup against Bowie with a .935 OPS over his past 16 games, but he was forced from the contest after going 0-for-2 with a walk. It's unclear if the 22-year-old will require a stint on the injured list, so for now he should be considered day-to-day.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Dealing with back stiffness

Gorman was held out of Tuesday's lineup against the Padres due to lower-back stiffness, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

It appeared to be a regular day off for Gorman with a left-handed pitcher on the mound, but he also wasn't available off the bench due to the back issue. The 22-year-old dealt with a similar issue during spring training that sidelined him for a couple days, though the injury is apparently less severe this time around. Gorman should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's series finale versus San Diego.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Pirates' Michael Chavis: Back in action Tuesday

Chavis (forearm) is starting at first base and batting third Tuesday against the Dodgers, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Chavis sat out the past three games after exiting Friday's contest with left forearm discomfort, but he'll return to the starting nine Tuesday. The 26-year-old has a .751 OPS through 22 games in May and should continue to see plenty of playing time at first base with Yoshi Tsutsugo (back) on the injured list.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Not starting Tuesday

Rodgers will sit Tuesday against Miami, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.

Rodgers sits after starting 16 of the last 17 games at second base. He grabbed at least one hit in every game he appeared in over that stretch, slashing .365/.412/.492. Garrett Hampson will take over at the keystone Tuesday.
