Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Could take on apprenticeship role

Lux is likely to join the Dodgers in September but may not be added to the active roster, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Manager Dave Roberts recently acknowledged that Lux has earned an opportunity to join the team when rosters expand in September, in some capacity. That could mean that Lux joins the team in a "ride-along" scenario; traveling and taking part in team activities but not as a member of the active roster (and not playing in games). Los Angeles took a similar approach with Will Smith -- who is now the team's starting catcher -- at the end of last season. Lux is slashing .356/.427/.627 with 24 home runs across two minor-league stops this year and appears to be a big part of the Dodgers' future plans.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Makes MLB debut

Rojas started in left field and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 8-6 win over the Rockies.

Rojas had his contract selected from Triple-A Reno on Monday and was immediately put to work. With David Peralta battling neck stiffness, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo gave the left-handed-hitting Rojas an opportunity against Colorado right-hander Peter Lambert. Rojas has put up strong numbers at Triple-A this season and is an intriguing bat with defensive versatility.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Pirates' Adam Frazier: Sitting vs. lefty

Frazier will head to the bench for Monday's game against the Angels.

Frazier is in line for a night off with a lefty in Jose Suarez slated to take the mound for the opposition. Kevin Newman draws the start at the keystone and will lead off with Frazier out of the equation.

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Gets call to majors

The Diamondbacks selected Rojas' contract from Triple-A Reno ahead of Monday's game against the Rockies.

The 25-year-old Rojas didn't enter this season with much buzz in prospect circles, but he put himself on the radar by slashing .315/.403/.575 with 20 home runs and 32 steals between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Round Rock in Houston's organization before he was one of four minor-league players sent to Arizona on July 31 in the Zack Greinke deal. Rojas continued to mash at Triple-A Reno, going 18-for-35 with eight extra-base hits in eight games with the affiliate before getting his first call to the big leagues. He'll likely see most of his initial opportunities at second base, with Ketel Marte likely shifting to center field on the occasions Rojas starts.

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Raking at Reno

Rojas is batting .514/.575/.943 with three home runs and 14 RBI over eight games at Triple-A Reno.

Rojas was acquired by the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline, part of the return from the Astros for Zack Greinke. He plays multiple positions in the infield and outfield, bouncing around left field, right field, third base and shortstop. He could be of use at corner outfield in Arizona. The Diamondbacks' corner outfielders have collectively slugged .341 in 39 games since June 23.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Knocks two doubles

McNeil went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, a run scored and a walk in Sunday's 7-4 loss to Washington.

McNeil swatted a two-run double in the second inning to tie the game at 3-3. The All-Star utility man has gone 14-of-36 (.389) with 14 runs scored and eight extra-base hits so far in August.

  • Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Rehab assignment around corner

Hernandez (hand) is expected to go on a rehab assignment next week, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

He has been hitting in the cage and is ready nearly ready to face pitching in games. It sounds like he could return either next weekend or the following week. A late-August return seems likely.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Padres' Luis Urias: Rides pine Sunday

Urias is not in Sunday's lineup against the Rockies.

He is hitting .300 with one home run, seven strikeouts and three walks in his last 10 games (30 at-bats). Greg Garcia is starting at second base and hitting seventh.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Pirates' Adam Frazier: Hits solo home run

Frazier went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 3-1 loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.

The 27-year-old went deep to lead off the game, but that's the only real offense the Pirates had all night, as they lost their seventh straight. The home run broke an 0-for-15 streak over Frazier's last games. Overall, he's batting .264 with six home runs, 29 RBI, 56 runs and three steals in 398 at-bats this season.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Records eighth steal

Marte went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Dodgers.

Marte was the only Diamondback to record multiple hits Saturday. Both of his hits were singles, and he stole second base in the fourth inning for his eighth steal of the year. Over his last seven games, the 25-year-old is 12-for-30 with three steals, a homer, two triples and eight runs scored.
