Guardians' Amed Rosario: Dealing with sore wrist

Rosario is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics with what manager Terry Francona has said is a sore left wrist, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Rosario will be on the bench for a third straight game due to the issue, which Francona said has been bothering the 26-year-old off and on since the start of spring training. Francona indicated Saturday that the Guardians are hopeful the issue won't sideline Rosario for too long, but a trip to the injured list could grow more likely for the shortstop if he doesn't show improvement following Monday's off day.

  • Alan Trejo SS | COL

Rockies' Alan Trejo: Streak of starts ends

Trejo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

With Brendan Rodgers (back) returning to the starting nine, Trejo's four-game streak of starting at second base will come to an end. Trejo went 3-for-15 with a double, a walk and three runs over that four-game stretch, and he could end up picking up at least a handful of starts per week if Rodgers' struggles continue even though he's ostensibly healthy again. Rodgers heads into Sunday's game with a lowly .078/.172/.098 slash line across his 58 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Reds' Brandon Drury: Making fourth straight start

Drury will start at third base and bat fifth Sunday against the Rockies.

Drury will fill in at third base for the lefty-hitting Colin Moran, who takes a seat with southpaw Kyle Freeland on the hill for Colorado. It's the fourth consecutive start for Drury, who could have a path to steady playing time against right-handed pitching if the Reds elect to deploy him at second base following Jonathan India's (hamstring) placement on the injured list Sunday. Matt Reynolds will pick up the start at the keystone Sunday and could be a factor at the position during India's absence, as could Alejo Lopez.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Back to injured list

India (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to April 30.

India spent less than two weeks on the injured list with the right hamstring issue before being activated Tuesday, but he quickly aggravated the injury and is now back on the shelf. It's unclear how long he's expected to be sidelined this time around, though the Reds figure to be more cautious to avoid rushing him back again. Brandon Drury and Matt Reynolds are likely to see time at the keystone in his absence.

  • Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA

Angels' Jack Mayfield: Returns to big club

The Angels recalled Mayfield from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Though he was optioned to Salt Lake on Friday, Mayfield is eligible to rejoin the Angels on short notice after the team placed Matt Duffy on the COVID-19 injured list prior to Sunday's game against the White Sox. Mayfield should be up with the Angels for the duration of Duffy's absence, but the former is unlikely to see meaningful at-bats while all of Anthony Rendon, David Fletcher, Andrew Velazquez and Tyler Wade are ahead of him in the pecking order for playing time at second base, third base or shortstop.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Hamstring issue resurfaces

India isn't starting Sunday against the Rockies due to hamstring tightness, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

India was scratched from Saturday's lineup to have a recovery day after being activated from the injured list earlier in the week, but his hamstring injury apparently remains bothersome. The 25-year-old will have three straight days off due to Monday's scheduled off day, so he could be back in action Tuesday at Milwaukee.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Remains on bench Sunday

India is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Colorado.

The 25-year-old was scratched from Saturday's lineup to provide him a recovery day after returning from the injured list earlier in the week, and he's out of the starting nine again Sunday. The extra game off will provide India three straight days of rest thanks to Monday's scheduled off day. Matt Reynolds will start at the keystone in his place and bat eighth.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: On base three times

Merrifield went 1-for-3 with two walks in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Yankees.

Merrifield hadn't gotten on base multiple times in a game since April 12 as he's struggled to begin the season. The versatile veteran is slashing just .141/.190/.179 with three stolen bases, four RBI, four runs scored and three doubles in 19 contests. He's been bumped from the leadoff spot for Nicky Lopez, though neither of them are doing much to impress with the bat. With Adalberto Mondesi (knee) likely out for the season, Merrifield should serve as the everyday second baseman. His strong defense is enough to keep him in the lineup, allowing him the opportunity to play through a slump on offense.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Poaching playing time from Abrams

Kim will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Though the Padres will include the righty-hitting Kim and lefty-hitting CJ Abrams in the lineup Sunday as their starters up the middle, the former looks to have moved ahead of the latter on the depth chart at shortstop. Abrams was on the bench for both of the first two games of the series in Pittsburgh, despite the Pirates bringing a pair of right-handers (Zach Thompson and JT Brubaker) to the hill for those games. Kim has helped his case for sticking in a full-time role at shortstop by going 7-for-15 with two home runs, three doubles, seven RBI and five runs over his last four starts.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Drives in three Saturday

Estrada went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Nationals.

He laced a two-run double into left-center in the third inning to get the Giants on the board, then added a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the fifth to put San Francisco in the lead for good. Estrada is batting only .205 (8-for-39) over the last 11 games, but he's still provided a little fantasy value with two steals, four runs and six RBI.
