  • Jazz Chisholm 2B | NYY

Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Exits with groin tightness

Chisholm was removed from Wednesday's contest against the Royals due to left groin tightness, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

After making an early exit from Tuesday's game due to neck tightness, Chisholm's groin forced him to leave a second consecutive game prematurely. The severity of his latest injury remains unknown, though the Yankees may look to get their starting third baseman a day off, given the fact that he's been injured twice in two days. If so, Oswald Peraza would likely benefit from an additional start.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Could avoid IL stint

Donovan told reporters Wednesday that an MRI revealed a sprained capsule in the joint of his left big toe, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Donovan added that going on the injured list is a "worst-case [scenario]" and appeared optimistic that an IL stint isn't necessary. Still, his availability for the Cardinals' upcoming four-game road series against the Brewers is in question and would open the door for Nolan Gorman to see more work at the keystone. Donovan has gone 7-for-35 (.200) with four runs scored and two RBI since the beginning of June.

  • Jazz Chisholm 2B | NYY

Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Back in lineup Wednesday

Chisholm (neck) will start at third base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game in Kansas City.

Chisholm exited Tuesday's 10-2 win due to neck tightness following a hard tag after he stole third base, but he will not have to miss a start. The 27-year-old has gone 9-for-25 with two home runs and four stolen bases over seven games since returning from the injured list.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Records two more hits

Hoerner went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Phillies.

Hoerner delivered his second straight two-hit performance to wrap up the series against Philadelphia. The infielder is once again providing a strong batting average with little power, as he's now hitting .288 with no home runs and a .693 OPS. Hoerner's best fantasy asset remains his speed, as he has 13 stolen bases this season in 16 attempts, and he should also be able to score a decent number of runs as part of a potent Chicago lineup.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

Tigers' Colt Keith: Making first career start at 3B

Keith will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Manager A.J. Hinch indicated last week that Keith had begun taking reps at third base, and he could emerge as an option at the position with the Tigers having thus far received underwhelming production at that spot from the likes of Zach McKinstry, Javier Baez and Andy Ibanez. Keith played an inning at third base in a 3-2 extra-inning loss to the White Sox last Thursday, but he'll now get the chance to make his first MLB start at the position. The 23-year-old came up through the system as a third baseman, but after suffering a labrum injury in July 2022 that affected his throwing, Keith turned his focus to playing second base, first base and designated hitter. Now long removed from the shoulder injury, he still likely profiles as a low-end defender at third base, but if he can prove to be merely adequate, that may be enough for him to find a home at the position. Keith continues to provide good reason for the Tigers to keep his bat in the lineup against right-handed pitching, as he's slashing .283/.333/.475 since the beginning of May.

  • Scott Kingery 2B | CHC

Angels' Scott Kingery: Sitting after three straight starts

Kingery is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Luis Rengifo will shift over from third base to second base Wednesday, but Kingery covered the keystone in each of the Angels' previous three contests and could serve as the primary option at the position until one of Yoan Moncada (knee) or Chris Taylor (hand) returns from the injured list. Since getting a call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake on May 28, Kingery has gone 2-for-16 with a double, a walk and a run over six games with the Angels.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Awaiting MRI results

The Cardinals are awaiting results of an MRI on Donovan's injured left big toe, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Donovan felt discomfort with the toe prior to Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays and eventually had to be removed from that game after the soreness worsened. The super utility player is not in the lineup Wednesday and the Cardinals expect to know more about Donovan's condition after the game.

  • Cole Young SS | SEA

Mariners' Cole Young: Getting first day off

Young is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Young will exit the lineup for the first time since getting a call-up from Triple-A Tacoma on May 31. Jorge Polanco will step in at second base in place of Young, who went 8-for-36 (.222 average) with a 1:11 BB:K, three RBI and two runs in his first 10 MLB games.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Edman is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in San Diego.

Edman has reached base six times over the previous three contests, but he will get a breather for Wednesday's series finale. Hyeseong Kim will handle second base and bat ninth for the Dodgers.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Idle versus lefty

Gimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

The left-handed-hitting Gimenez will hit the bench Wednesday as the Blue Jays stock up on some extra right-handed bats to counter Cardinals southpaw Matthew Liberatore. Davis Schneider will step in for Gimenez at the keystone.
