Manager tabs Josh Donaldson as A's best player
Athletics manager Bob Melvin didn't hesitate Sunday when naming Josh Donaldson as the team's best player through 50 games, according to the Contra Costa Times. Donaldson has thrived in his first full season as the team's starting third baseman.
"He’s taken the job, seized it, and I think he’s played more games than anybody on our team," Melvin said. "To this point in time, he’s probably been our most consistent player, offensively and defensively."
Donaldson has committed four errors in 49 games at third base, while batting .322 with a .544 slugging percentage.
"It’s just confidence," Melvin said. "He continues to swing the bat well and his confidence continues to grow. You look at his numbers he’s put up in the minor leagues and the ability’s always been there. The only thing that hasn’t been is the opportunity at the big-league level."
