Giants' Evan Longoria: Rejoins lineup Saturday

Longoria (illness) is starting at third base and batting fifth Saturday at Arizona, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Longoria was absent from Friday's lineup due to a stomach bug but was able to make a quick return to action Saturday. The 33-year-old is slashing .281/.361/.594 with three home runs in 32 at-bats since the start of May.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

    Mets' J.D. Davis: Sitting Saturday

Davis is not in the lineup Saturday against the Marlins.

Davis appeared to be moving back ahead of Todd Frazier in the pecking order at third base, starting five out of six games, but Frazier has since gotten the call in two straight contests. Davis could have some opportunities in the outfield in the near future with Michael Conforto out with a concussion, but that opportunity won't come Saturday.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Braves' Josh Donaldson: Launches seventh homer

Donaldson went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's win over the Brewers.

The veteran third baseman went deep as part of a nine-run sixth inning by Atlanta. Donaldson is slashing .259/.377/.483 through 42 games with seven homers and 21 RBI, and while Austin Riley could be a threat to his playing time down the road if the youngster gets squeezed out of left field, Donaldson figures to remain a regular part of the lineup as long as he's healthy.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Swats fourth homer

Davis went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in Friday's loss to the Marlins.

Davis entered the game in the sixth inning and took over in left field as part of a double switch for Jacob deGrom and then took Trevor Richards deep in the seventh to chase the Miami starter from the game for his fourth home run of the year. He could see extra outfield opportunities while Michael Conforto (concussion) and Jeff McNeil (abdomen) are on the shelf, but he's been seeing regular action at third base lately anyway, although he hasn't been doing much with it. Davis is hitting .235 (8-for-34) in May with a 0:10 BB:K, and Friday's homer was his first since April 14.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Triples in win

Escobar went 1-for-5 with a three-RBI triple in the Diamondbacks' 7-0 victory over the Giants on Friday.

Escobar smacked a three-run triple off reliever Derek Holland in the seventh to boost Arizona's lead to 6-0. He's now hit safely in five straight games, and is batting .290 with nine homers, 30 RBI and 27 runs scored as he continues to produce impressive numbers for the Diamondbacks.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Posts ninth homer

Muncy went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in a 6-0 victory against the Reds on Friday.

The 28-year-old has been a pretty steady presence in the Dodgers lineup this season. He hit .269 with an .857 OPS in April, and Muncy has improved on both of those numbers during the first half of May. He's up to nine homers and a .496 slugging percentage in 2019. Overall, Muncy is batting .262 with 14 extra-base hits, 29 RBI, 21 runs and two steals in 141 at-bats this season.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Smacks seventh homer

Rendon went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk and two runs scored Friday against the Cubs.

Rendon cut Chicago's lead to one in the third inning with a two-run shot to center field, but the Cubs would erupt for 14 runs when all was said and done. The 28-year-old third baseman has now reached safely in four straight, registering four extra-base hits and four RBI over that stretch.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Out with stomach bug

Longoria isn't starting Friday against the Diamondbacks due to illness, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Longoria will head to the bench for the series opener because of a stomach bug. Pablo Sandoval draws the start at the hot corner and bats fifth in Longoria's stead.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Brewers' Mike Moustakas: Rest day Friday

Moustakas is not in the lineup for Friday's series opener in Atlanta, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Moustaka will take a seat for the second time since returning from his finger injury at the end of April. He slashed .276/.308/.517 with five home runs and 19 RBI in that stretch. Hernan Perez will start at third base Friday with southpaw Max Fried on the mound for the Braves.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Out of Friday's lineup

Davis is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Davis started five of the last six games at third base for the Mets and went 6-for-21 with one double and one RBI in that span. Todd Frazier will start at the hot corner at bat seventh in the series opener.
