With the Dodgers down 1-0 in the top of the seventh inning, Muncy got hold of a Gerrit Cole slider and deposited it into the second deck in right field at Yankee Stadium for what proved to be the game-winning blast. It was Muncy's 18th homer of the season but his first in July, as he'd managed a weak .212/.297/.303 slash line with three RBI in his last 10 games before the All-Star break.

It can be viewed as good news for Muncy after he was involved in a big collision at first base with Ildemaro Vargas in the fifth inning of Thursday's 3-2 loss to Arizona. With lefty Reid Detmers getting the start for the Angels against the Dodgers on Friday, it makes sense to give Muncy another day to rest. Santiago Espinal came on to play third base following Muncy's departure Thursday.

Muncy had gone 10 games without a multi-hit effort, going just 4-for-29 (.138) in that span, which also saw him miss some time due to a wrist injury. The third baseman tacked on the Dodgers' eighth run Sunday with a solo shot in the seventh inning. Muncy is batting .257 with an .887 OPS, 14 homers, 21 RBI, 39 runs scored, six doubles and no stolen bases over 53 contests this season. Injuries have kept him from reaching the 20-homer mark in the previous two regular seasons after he reached that threshold in five of the previous six years. As long as his health holds up in 2026, he's well on his way to getting back to that mark or better.

Muncy was absent from the starting lineup for the fourth straight game after getting hit on the right wrist by a pitch Friday. However, he logged game action Tuesday for the first time since that HBP, entering in the ninth inning to play third base with the Dodgers up 15-1 and Miguel Rojas, who started at the hot corner, mopping up on the mound. Though Muncy didn't swing a bat, he did cleanly handle a grounder to third base and made the throw to first to record an out.
