  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Held out Saturday

Rendon (toe) is out of the lineup against the Rockies on Saturday.

Rendon was removed from Friday's contest after fouling a pitch off his left toe. Though Rendon's X-rays came back clean, manager Davey Martinez will give the third baseman a day off to recover. In his place, Matt Reynolds will draw a start at the hot corner.

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Leaves game after fouling pitch off toe

Rendon exited Friday's loss to the Rockies after fouling a pitch off his left toe, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

The good news for Rendon is that X-rays came back negative, but his status for Saturday's game remains uncertain. The 27-year-old will see how he feels in the morning and determine his status from. Wilmer Difo is the likely candidate to step in at third base if Rendon -- who should be considered day-to-day -- is ultimately unable to play Saturday.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Struggling with new club

Longoria is slashing a meager .163/.182/.302 through 11 games in his first season with San Francisco.

The veteran went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Padres, but useful stat lines like those have been few and far between at the onset of the 2018 campaign. Longoria saw his production tail off last year (.261/.313/.424 with 20 home runs and 86 RBI) from his impressive 2016 season, but even those totals weren't far off from what he provided in 2014 and 2015. It is still early, so owners shouldn't jump ship and assume that this anemic production will stick all year. Longoria's teammate, Andrew McCutchen, proved that players can turn their early season slump around in just a game or two, so practice patience with your proven vets this early.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Suspended five games

Arenado received a five-game suspension as a result of his actions in Wednesday's bench-clearing brawl with the Padres, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Arenado is appealing the suspension, so he'll be able to remain in the lineup for Friday's tilt with the Nationals. Monitor this situation closely over the next few days, as he could be a risky play in leagues with weekly lineup changes if his appeal bleeds into next week.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Two home runs for Mississippi

Riley went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs Thursday for Double-A Mississippi.

The third baseman's torrid start to the campaign continued in Biloxi, and he is now hitting .346/.414/.692 with two home runs and a 6:3 K:BB in 26 at-bats for the Mississippi Braves. He is ready for Triple-A, so look for him to receive a promotion in the coming weeks.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Rockies' DJ LeMahieu: Homers twice Thursday

LeMahieu went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Nationals.

LeMahieu's multi-home run game was the second of his career, both of which have surprisingly come on the road. He now has four home runs on the season, a mark worth noting given that he hit eight home runs in 609 at-bats last season. It's even more notable that all of his home runs have come on the road, where he he has slugged only .385 over the last three seasons. This may well just be a hot start to the season, but it is worth monitoring if he can continue to produce away from Coors Field.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Rockies' DJ LeMahieu: Bats leadoff Thursday

LeMahieu is the leadoff hitter for Thursday's bout with the Nationals, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

LeMahieu normally hits second, but he'll move up a spot in the order to replace Charlie Blackmon (quad) at the pole position. He will likely move back to the two-hole once Blackmon is healthy, though the second baseman still provides good fantasy value as long as he's in a tablesetting role around the top of the Colorado lineup.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Flourishing at Double-A

Riley is hitting .333 with three doubles and a 5:3 K:BB in five games for Double-A Mississippi.

He is probably ready for Triple-A, but for now the Braves want Rio Ruiz getting everyday at-bats there. Riley's strikeout rate is worth keeping tabs on, but his power and patience should allow him to flourish for as long as he remains at Double-A.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: On base three times Tuesday

Anderson went 2-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's 8-6 loss to the Mets.

The 24-year-old continues to bang out base hits, and Anderson now has a robust .317/.462/.488 slash line through 11 games with one home run, eight runs and nine RBI. He's also shown a dramatically better approach at the plate, posting a 17.3 percent walk rate and 11.5 percent strikeout rate so far after managing 10.5 percent and 29.5 percent marks in 25 games during his big-league debut in 2017. The sample size is of course very small, but if he can maintain even a portion of those improvements, he could prove to be a surprisingly useful fantasy asset.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Moving back to third base

Senzel has moved back to third base with Triple-A Louisville, the team's official site reports.

As C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic Cincinnati suggests, this could mean that Senzel will be up with the big league club sooner than anticipated, or even anticipated earlier in the week immediately after Eugenio Suarez was hurt. With Suarez out, third base is wide open, and the Reds won't have to make a tough decision on whether to pull the plug on Jose Peraza or trade Scooter Gennett to make room for Senzel.
