Padres' Carlos Asuaje: Drops to seventh in order

Asuaje is starting at second base and hitting seventh Tuesday against the Rockies, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Asuaje was deployed as the leadoff man for a couple of games, but he went just 1-for-7 with a pair of strikeouts, so manager Andy Green decided to turn back to Manuel Margot as his tablesetter. The 26-year-old has primarily found himself hitting in the 5-to-7 range this season, and he'll likely stick around there assuming Margot's struggles as the leadoff man don't continue.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Moved to cleanup Tuesday

Rendon is batting fourth Tuesday against the Braves.

Rendon has batted second in each of the Nationals' first 10 games, but the Nationals apparently want to get him into more of a run-producing role and protect Bryce Harper a bit. The third baseman is hitting .310 with a homer and four RBI so far.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Hits DL on Monday

Suarez (thumb) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday.

There is still no timetable for the infielder's return, and this trip to the DL still comes as no surprise given that his thumb is fractured. Cliff Pennington seems like the main beneficiary for additional playing time, though Alex Blandino -- who was called up to take Suarez's place on the roster -- could also see some time at the hot corner given his solid showing in the minors last season.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Call-up not imminent

Senzel is unlikely to be called up immediately to replace the injured Eugenio Suarez (thumb), the Reds' official site reports.

Suarez fractured his right thumb Sunday when he was hit by a pitch. Senzel, a highly-rated prospect, plays third base and has reached Triple-A, but it's unlikely that he's called up immediately to replace Suarez. He isn't yet on the Reds' 40-man roster, and the team will want to keep him in the minors until at least Friday in order to retain an extra year of team control. There's a chance he gets called up this weekend, though with just three games played at the Triple-A level, the team may elect to keep him in the minors for a little while longer.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Drives in two

Anderson went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and one run scored Sunday against the Phillies.

Anderson continued his impressive start to the campaign, recording his third multi-RBI game of the season Sunday. Despite the small sample, it is worth noting he has done the majority of his damage against left-handed pitching, posting a .643 slugging percentage against them to this point as opposed to just a .278 against right-handed pitching. That continued Sunday, as he doubled against left-hander Adam Morgan. To begin the season, Anderson has 14 at-bats against left-handed pitching and only 18 against right-handers, so if his splits continue, his numbers will fall as he faces more right-handed pitching.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Suffers fractured thumb

Suarez was diagnosed with a fractured thumb on his right hand Sunday.

The fractured thumb is a result of being hit by a pitch on his right hand. An estimated timeline for his return hasn't been revealed, but this injury will surely require a trip to the disabled list. Reserve infielder Cliff Pennington might be in line to see increased playing time in Suarez's absence, though the Reds could opt to promote top prospect Nick Senzel or minor-league infielder Brandon Dixon, as well. Senzel would be the wisest choice for chasing upside during Sunday night pickups.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Exits with injury Sunday

Suarez exited the game early Sunday after being hit by a pitch on his right hand.

Suarez was struck on his right hand by a pitch in the fourth inning but was initially able to remain in the game on the base paths. He was, however, replaced at third base by Cliff Pennington between innings. We'll await word from the Reds on the severity of his injury.

  • Carlos Asuaje 3B | LAD

Padres' Carlos Asuaje: Receives leadoff assignment

Asuaje will start at second base and lead off Sunday against the Astros, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

With Manuel Margot off to a horrid start to the season and Jose Pirela turning in a four-strikeout performance in his turn as the table setter Saturday, manager Andy Green will see if Asuaje can provide the Padres with a lift atop the lineup. Though he lacks much power or speed, Asuaje excels at making contact and boasts a keen eye at the plate, skills that could help him gain traction in the leadoff role beyond Sunday.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Goes deep Saturday

Suarez went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI and one run scored Saturday against the Pirates.

Suarez hit his second home run of the season, taking George Kontos deep in the eighth inning to put the Reds ahead for good. He has hit primarily second in the order, which should give him plenty of opportunities for counting stats sandwiched between Jesse Winker and Joey Votto.

  • Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN

Nationals' Matt Reynolds: Recalled from Triple-A

Reynolds was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

The Nationals wanted an extra bench bat with Adam Eaton (ankle) day-to-day. Reynolds is capable of playing the corner outfield spots as well as all four infield positions. He has a career .228/.300/.351 slash line in 226 MLB plate appearances.
