  • Edmundo Sosa SS | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Excels in start at second base

Sosa went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and an additional run batted in Sunday against the Nationals.

Sosa made his first appearance in over a week, filling in for Bryson Stott -- who got the day off -- at second base. He delivered his first long ball of the campaign, tagging MacKenzie Gore for a solo homer in the fifth frame. He got only two looks at the plate, with Stott coming in to replace Sosa in the eighth inning. The utility man should continue to play sparingly, but he's a decent bat when in the lineup.

  • Kevin Newman SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Kevin Newman: Sees immediate action

Newman started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Sunday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta.

The Diamondbacks selected Newman's contract from Triple-A Reno after Geraldo Perdomo (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list. He'll require surgery and is expected to miss at least one month. Newman has experience all around the infield and could get starts against left-handers, as was the case Sunday. Blaze Alexander, another right-handed hitter, started at shortstop Sunday.

  • Graham Pauley 3B | MIA

Padres' Graham Pauley: Out of starting lineup

Pauley is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants.

Pauley has gotten three starts out of 11 games at third base so far this year but will sit out another amidst some batting struggles as veteran Tyler Wade will get his seventh start of the season. The rookie is currently batting .154 in 13 at bats this year, and he'll likely need to improve in order to see a larger share of the playing time at the hot corner.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | CHC

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Out of Sunday's lineup

Madrigal is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Madrigal started the first two games versus Los Angeles and went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. Christopher Morel will man the hot corner while Mike Tauchman receives a turn in the outfield Sunday.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Not in Sunday's lineup

Muncy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Muncy has made three starts against left-handed pitchers this season but will take a seat Sunday versus Chicago southpaw Shota Imanaga. Miguel Rojas will man the hot corner and bat ninth.

  • Kevin Newman SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Kevin Newman: Back with Arizona

Newman signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on March 28.

Newman opted out of his minor-league deal with Arizona on March 27 after missing the Opening Day roster, but he re-signed with the organization a day later. The 30-year-old could receive a look in the big leagues since Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is soon heading to the injured list and top prospect Jordan Lawlar is out multiple months after thumb surgery.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Drives in two in win

Muncy went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Saturday's win over the Cubs.

Muncy doubled to lead off the top of the fourth but was left stranded. However, he got the Dodgers on the board in the next inning with a two-run single, scoring Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez. The third baseman was just 2-for-15 at the plate this month coming in, though Saturday did mark his third two-hit game of the season. Muncy has also struck out multiple times in five consecutive games and in all but two games so far during the campaign.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Plays field Saturday

Candelario started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a walk, double and run scored in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Mets.

Candelario, who sustained a sore elbow Thursday, has not missed any time because of it. He started at designated hitter Friday then returned to the field Saturday. Candelario's batting just .200 through 30 at-bats, but he's hit safely in six of eight games played.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | COL

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Goes deep again

McMahon went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Saturday against the Rays.

McMahon homered in his first plate appearance of the game, his second long ball of the season. While both of his long balls have come at Coors Field, McMahon has at least one hit in eight of nine contests to begin the campaign.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | CHW

Nationals' Nick Senzel: Set to start rehab assignment

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Saturday that Senzel (thumb) will begin his rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg on Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Senzel was placed on the 10-day injured list after he fractured his thumb fielding grounders ahead of the Nationals' season opener. Martinez noted that Senzel reported no problems while throwing and hitting Friday. While Senzel works his way back from his thumb injury, Trey Lipscomb will continue to start at third base.
