  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Returns to lineup

Hayes (back) will return to the lineup Saturday against San Diego, batting second and playing third base.

Hayes sat Friday due to a lower-back issue, but the injury was evidently a minor one, as he's back in action just one day later. He went 0-for-9 with four strikeouts in the two games immediately prior to the injury, which may indicate he wasn't quite at full strength.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Battling tennis elbow

Machado's absence from the lineup Saturday against Pittsburgh is due to tennis elbow, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Tennis elbow is a painful condition that can happen when tendons in the elbow are worn out by repetitive motions such as swinging a bat or a tennis racket. Thankfully for Machado and the Padres, the issue isn't expected to be a long-term problem, as the third baseman is merely considered day-to-day.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Battling unspecified minor issue

Machado's off day Saturday against the Pirates is more than merely a rest day, as he's dealing with an unspecified minor issue, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

It's difficult to predict how much time Machado will miss until more information comes out regarding his injury, though the initial framing doesn't paint it as the type of problem which could require a trip to the injured list. Ha-Seong Kim will move to third base Saturday, with Sergio Alcantara starting at shortstop, an arrangement the Padres could return to if Machado is forced to miss more than one game.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Day off Saturday

Machado will sit Saturday against the Pirates, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

There hasn't been any indication that this is anything other than a routine day off for Machado, who's sat on just one prior occasion this season. He's hitting an excellent .357/.438/.583 on the season but will rest after going hitless in his last two games. Ha-Seong Kim slides to third base in his absence, with Sandy Alcantara getting the start at shortstop.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Not starting in nightcap

McMahon isn't starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Washington, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.

McMahon has been an everyday player for the Rockies this year, but he'll get a breather after he went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in Saturday's matinee. Garrett Hampson will start at the hot corner and bat eighth.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Four hits in win

Devers went 4-for-5 with a double in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Orioles.

Devers notched a single in the first inning and then a double in the second frame before adding two more base knocks later in the contest. The multi-hit effort was his third straight and fifth over his last seven contests. Over that stretch, Devers hit .485 with seven extra-base hits -- including three homers -- 11 runs and four RBI. The third baseman is off to a great start in 2022, producing a .354 average with 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 36 runs and a stolen base over 195 at-bats in 46 games.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Managing quadriceps soreness

Moncada, who isn't starting Saturday against the Cubs, is dealing with quadriceps soreness, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

The White Sox said Thursday that Moncada was dealing with leg soreness, but general manager Rick Hahn clarified the nature of the third baseman's injury Saturday. Moncada isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list, but Jake Burger will take over at the hot corner and bat eighth Saturday.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Lands on injured list

Muncy was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with left elbow inflammation.

Muncy's left elbow is the same one in which he suffered a partially torn UCL at the tail end of last season. He wound up being ready for the start of this season despite fears he'd have to miss time, but his .150/.327/.263 slash line through 41 games casts doubt on the idea that he was ever fully healthy. His move to the injured list can be backdated to Thursday, leaving him eligible to return June 5, but the Dodgers may decide he needs more than a minimum-length absence in order to fully heal. Outfielder Kevin Pillar's contract was selected in a corresponding move, which may allow utility players Gavin Lux and Chris Taylor to feature more frequently in the infield until Muncy returns.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Remains out of lineup

Moncada (leg) isn't starting Saturday against the Cubs, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.

Moncada has been dealing with leg soreness recently, and he'll remain out of the lineup for a second straight matchup. Jake Burger will start at the hot corner and bat eighth.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Scratched from Saturday's lineup

Anderson was scratched from Saturday's lineup against Atlanta due to lower back spasms, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Anderson was slated to start in right field and bat fifth Saturday, but he's being evaluated for a lower back injury. Bryan De La Cruz will shift to right field while Willians Astudillo enters the lineup at second base. Anderson should tentatively be considered day-to-day.
