Perez is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports.

This will be Perez's first day off since Aug. 7, and it is simply of the maintenance day variety. Drew Butera will get the start at catcher and hit eighth Wednesday.

Maile went 3-for-4 with a bases clearing double, four RBI overall and a run in Tuesday's 15-1 thrashing of the Padres.

The backup catcher opened the scoring on what would be a momentous day for the Rays offense with a second-inning two-bagger that plated Matt Duffy, Logan Morrison and Steven Souza, Jr.. He followed it up in the third with an RBI single that brought in Morrison, extending the lead to 6-0 at the time. Maile impressively did all of his damage out of the nine-hole, with the effort representing his second multi-hit outing over his last four starts and third overall on the season.

Sanchez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Sanchez homered in both of his at-bats against starter Marco Estrada, following up a second-inning solo shot with a three-run blast in the fourth. This was by far the most productive offensive performance of the 23-year-old's brief career, as he doubled his career homer total in a four-inning span before action was interrupted by a 44-minute rain delay. He added one more post-delay hit for good measure, and now boasts a .340/.367/.660 line through 12 games.

Leon, who did not play Monday in Cleveland, will return to the starting lineup for games in Baltimore on Tuesday and Wednesday, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.

Bryan Holaday, who started Monday, will return to catching Thursday when the Red Sox are in Detroit. Boston is in the midst of a hectic travel schedule, so Leon and Holaday are splitting duties.

Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 12-3 loss to the Rays.

The Yankees were already down 8-1 when Sanchez popped his second home run of the season, but at least he went down swinging. Both homers have come in his last four games, so while his 1:10 BB:K through 10 games is worrying, Sanchez's power is at least beginning to show through.

Maile is out of the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, MLB.com's Bill Chastain reports.

Maile has been receiving the majority of the starts behind the plate since the All-Star break, but with a .167/.224/.204 batting line during that span, he might be starting to feel some pressure from Bobby Wilson, who gets the nod Sunday. Both backstops have now seen three starts each over the last six games.

Narvaez could see more playing time down the stretch, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The White Sox have little to play for in 2016, so they can use the season's waning weeks to see if Narvaez may be an answer to their long-term catching question. Friday's start was Narvaez's second in three games, and he drew three walks in a win over the Marlins.

Leon is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.

Leon will get a regular day off after starting the past three games behind the plate. Bryan Holaday will take his place, batting eighth.

Sanchez is not in Friday's lineup against the Rays.

Sanchez will be out of the lineup after starting seven of the past eight games. He will be replaced by Alex Rodriguez, who will be manning the DH spot for his final game as a Yankee, and Brian McCann behind the plate.

Gomes (shoulder) has begun to participate in light baseball activities, but still has a ways to go before returning to the field, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gomes landed on the DL on July 18, and will still likely be out another couple weeks as he has only just began baseball activities Thursday. He will need time to go on a rehab assignment, and with a separated AC joint in his right shoulder, the team will need to be cautious with him as he could potentially be out another month. Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez have been filling in behind the plate, and will continue to do so until he returns.
