  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Taking seat Friday

Rutschman is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

It's a routine day off for Rutschman, who was recently demoted from second to fifth in the Orioles' batting order. He's slashed just .162/.276/.263 since the beginning of July. James McCann will do the catching for Zach Eflin.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: On base three times Thursday

Kirk went 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI in Thursday's win over the Orioles.

The 25-year-old continues to thrive since becoming the Blue Jays' No. 1 catcher. Kirk has reached base safely in nine straight appearances, batting .452 (14-for-31) during that stretch with two doubles, a homer, four runs and nine RBI. The hot streak has boosted his slash line on the season to .254/.321/.348.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

    Tigers' Jake Rogers: Sitting Thursday

Rogers isn't in the Tigers' lineup Thursday against the Mariners.

Rogers broke an 0-for-16 stretch at the plate by hitting a home run during Wednesday's win, but he'll now take a seat for the third time in Detroit's last four games while Dillon Dingler starts behind the dish.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Earning more playing time

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Wells has "earned more and more reps" even after the return of Jose Trevino (quad), Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Wells and Trevino were being used pretty evenly before the latter was injured. However, with Wells hitting .383/.456/.596 over his last 12 games, he appears in line for the bulk of the starts at catcher once Trevino is activated, which could happen as soon as next week.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Connects for 24th homer

Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Tigers on Wednesday.

Raleigh uncorked a 427-foot shot to left field in the fourth inning with Randy Arozarena aboard to give the Mariners their first and only runs of the game. The homer was Raleigh's first since he memorably left the yard in three straight games July 27-29, and it leaves him just six round trippers away from tying the career-best 30 he slugged in 2023.

  • Danny Jansen C | BOS

Red Sox's Danny Jansen: Homers in loss

Jansen went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Royals.

Jansen has gone 6-for-14 over four contests since he was acquired via trade from the Blue Jays. The catcher has settled into a backup role behind Connor Wong, though Wong can also play first base to give Jansen a path to some at-bats. For the year, Jansen is hitting .226 with a .702 OPS, seven homers, 20 RBI, 28 runs scored, 13 doubles and no stolen bases over 65 games.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Idle for nightcap

Wells isn't in the Yankees' lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Angels.

Wells will take a seat to begin Wednesday's nightcap after going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk during a victory in Game 1. Carlos Narvaez will start behind the plate instead and bat ninth.

  • Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Getting rest Wednesday

Rortvedt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Rortvedt had started at catcher in each of the Rays' last three games, so his absence Wednesday is most likely a maintenance day. Alex Jackson gets the nod behind the plate.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Resting for second half of twin bill

Naylor is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks.

Naylor went 0-for-4 while catching all nine innings in the Guardians' 7-3 loss in the first game of the day, so he'll head to the bench for a breather in the second contest. Austin Hedges will handle the catching duties in Game 2.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Getting breather for day game

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

With Wednesday's series finale beginning at 3:37 p.m. ET, Langeliers will get a breather after he caught all nine innings of the Athletics' 5-1 loss Tuesday night. Kyle McCann will pick up a start behind the dish in Langeliers' place.
