  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Sitting versus lefty

Raleigh is out of the lineup Friday against the Blue Jays.

Tom Murphy will start at catcher and bat fifth versus the Jays and left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. The switch-hitting Raleigh has slashed just .205/.279/.308 this year versus southpaws.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Sits against Valdez

Soderstrom is not in Friday's lineup against the Astros.

The lefty-hitting Soderstrom will head to the bench against tough lefty Framber Valdez. Jordan Diaz will fill in at first base while Jonah Bride handles designated hitter and Shea Langeliers starts behind the plate.

  • Rays' Francisco Mejia: Out up to six weeks

Mejia (knee) will likely be out 3-6 weeks with the left MCL sprain that sent him to the injured list Friday, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Mejia told reporters Friday afternoon that he was optimistic about only needing a minimal 10-day IL stint, but instead the injury is significant enough that it will require a multi-week shutdown period and then probably a multi-week buildup before his return. Rene Pinto has been summoned to the Rays to share time behind the plate with Christian Bethancourt.

  • Seby Zavala C | LAD

White Sox's Seby Zavala: Sitting Friday

Zavala is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Twins.

Zavala will remain on the bench for a second straight game Friday. Yasmani Grandal will start at catcher and bat sixth in the series opener with Minnesota.

  • Rays' Francisco Mejia: Not expected to be out long

Mejia (knee) is optimistic that he won't need a long stint on the injured list, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Mejia was placed on the injured list Friday with a left MCL sprain, but the catcher said he merely has some inflammation and should be ready after a few weeks of rest and rehab. Rene Pinto is up as Mejia's roster replacement.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Sitting versus southpaw

Naylor is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Phillies, Joe Noga of cleveland.com reports.

Naylor will remain on the bench for a second game in a row after going 1-for-9 with an RBI double while starting the first two games of a series against Pittsburgh. With the Guardians facing left-hander Ranger Suarez on Friday, David Fry will draw the start at catcher and bat sixth.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Done for season

Trevino (wrist) requires surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Trevino's season will come to a premature end after he produced a .210 batting average with four homers, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored over 55 contests. Ben Rortvedt was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will likely split time with Kyle Higashioka at catcher for the Yankees.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

Yankees' Ben Rortvedt: Back in big leagues

Rortvedt was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Rortvedt will return to the major-league roster after being sent down May 30, as Jose Trevino (wrist) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday. Rortvedt has produced a solid .276 batting average with six homers, 23 RBI, 19 runs and two stolen bases over 105 at-bats in 29 games with Triple-A, but it's not clear how much playing time he might get behind Kyle Higashioka.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Placed on 10-day IL

Trevino was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to July 18, with a torn ligament in his right wrist.

Trevino was set to be on the bench for a third game in a row Friday, but the move to the IL explains his recent absences. It's unclear exactly how long he'll be out, but Ben Rortvedt was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to serve as Kyle Higashioka's backup. Trevino has a .210/.257/.312 slash line with four home runs, 15 RBI and 15 runs in 55 games this season.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: On bench Friday

Trevino is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Royals.

Trevino will remain on the bench for a third consecutive contest Friday. Kyle Higashioka will draw another start behind the plate and bat ninth in the series opener with Kansas City.
