  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Running hot out of break

Rutschman went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk Sunday in the Orioles' 6-0 loss to the Yankees.

Rutschman opened his big-league career by hitting just .143 in his first 15 games with Baltimore, but the 24-year-old appears to have found his comfort zone at the plate ever since. In his 34 games that have followed, Rutschman has slashed .284/.368/.560 with five home runs, 20 runs, 17 RBI and a stolen base, with his leap forward offensively coinciding with the Orioles' rise up the American League East standings. The rookie will take a five-game extra-base-hit streak into Monday's series opener with the Rays.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Approaching rehab assignment

Perez (thumb) caught a bullpen session and took part in batting practice over the weekend, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

Manager Mike Matheny said Sunday that Perez is progressing toward a minor-league rehab assignment, though the skipper didn't outline when exactly that might come. Regardless, Perez seems to be coming along slightly faster than expected in his recovery from June 24 surgery to address a fractured left thumb. The Royals initially expected Perez to be sidelined for eight weeks, but the veteran backstop looks like he might have a realistic chance at making it back from the 10-day injured list by mid-August if he hits no further snags in his recovery program.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Athletics' Sean Murphy: On base four times in loss

Murphy went 2-for-3 with a double, a solo home run, two walks and an additional run in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.

Murphy's bat continued its breakout July with Sunday's spectacular effort, one that pushed his monthly slash line to a stellar .348/.420/.580 across 81 plate appearances. The slugging backstop is sporting an impressively modest 13.6 percent strikeout rate in that span as well, and 10 (seven doubles, three homers) of his 24 hits have gone for extra bases in the sample.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Perfect at plate

Trevino went 4-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Orioles.

Trevino scored on a DJ LeMahieu double in the third inning, then sent Matt Carpenter home on a double of his own in the sixth inning. This was Trevino's third multi-hit game this month and comes after a 3-for-21 stretch in his previous six appearances. The catcher's four-hit performance raised his batting average from .247 to .264.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Angels' Max Stassi: Records two extra-base hits

Stassi went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, three RBI, a run and a strikeout during Sunday's 9-1 win over Atlanta.

Stassi sat out Saturday's matchup against Atlanta, but he returned to the lineup Sunday and helped propel the Angels to the blowout win during the series finale. The 31-year-old has four extra-base hits over his last nine games, hitting .281 with a homer, a triple, two doubles, seven runs and five RBI during that time.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATL

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Doubles three times

Heim went 3-for-4 with three doubles, an RBI, three runs scored and a walk in Sunday's 11-8 win over Oakland.

Heim got started early with an RBI double and a run scored in the first inning. He later crossed home in the fifth and sixth frames. It was his first multi-hit game since he knocked two doubles against the Mariners on July 14. Heim improved his slash line to .270/.326/.477 with 26 extra-base hits and 39 runs scored through 264 plate appearances.

Raleigh will sit Sunday versus the Astros.

Raleigh will get a day off after he went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Luis Torrens will start behind the plate and bat sixth in the series finale.

  • Rays' Francisco Mejia: Sitting Sunday

Mejia will sit Sunday against the Royals, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Mejia will get a day off after he went 4-for-8 with a double, two RBI and three runs over the first two games of the series. Christian Bethancourt will start behind the plate and bat fifth in the series finale.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Breather Sunday

Grandal is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Guardians.

Grandal will get a day off after he went 4-for-7 with an RBI and walk while starting both games of Saturday's doubleheader. Seby Zavala will start at catcher and bat seventh in the series finale.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Breather Sunday

Kirk is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Red Sox.

Kirk will get a breather after he went 4-for-9 with an RBI and two runs scored in the first two contests of the series. Lourdes Gurriel will slide into the designated hitter spot while Raimel Tapia enters the lineup in left field and bats eighth versus Boston.
