  • Rays' Francisco Mejia: Homers, plates three

Mejia went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, three RBI and two runs in the 5-3 win over the Orioles on Saturday.

The catcher opened the scoring in the contest, notching a single in the bottom of the second inning off of Jordan Lyles and driving in teammate Josh Lowe before later scoring on a Brett Phillips ground out. Mejia busted the game wide open in the following inning, blasting a 2-2 fastball from Lyles over the fence, once again scoring Lowe and putting the Rays up 5-2. The 26-year-old is expected to operate in a timeshare with Mike Zunino behind the plate this season, though Mejia is the better option against right-handers.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Athletics' Sean Murphy: Two-bagger in opener

Murphy went 1-for-4 with a double and a run in a loss to the Phillies on Friday.

Murphy was virtually unstoppable during Cactus League play with a .433 average, and he got the regular season off to a positive start with his two-bagger off Aaron Nola, the only non-home-run extra-base hit for the Athletics on the afternoon. The 27-year-old racked up career highs in home runs (17) and RBI (59) in 2021, but his .216 average and .306 on-base percentage left ample room for improvement.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Out of Saturday's lineup

Jansen is not in Saturday's lineup against the Rangers.

He went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk on Opening Day and will head to the bench in the day game following the night game. Alejandro Kirk will start at catcher while Raimel Tapia slides into the outfield and Lourdes Gurriel shifts to designated hitter.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Riding pine Saturday

Raleigh isn't starting Saturday's game against the Twins.

Raleigh drew the start in Friday's Opening Day win and went 1-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout. Tom Murphy will start behind the plate and bat ninth Saturday.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Out of Saturday's lineup

Garver is not in Saturday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

He went yard in Friday night's loss and will get a breather in the ensuing day game. Jonah Heim will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Twins' Gary Sanchez: Not starting Saturday

Sanchez isn't starting Saturday's game against the Mariners, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Sanchez served as the designated hitter in Friday's Opening Day matchup and went 0-for-4, but he hit a deep fly ball to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning that came within feet of leaving the yard. Alex Kirilloff will DH while Nick Gordon starts in left field Saturday.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

    Tigers' Eric Haase: Catching Saturday

Haase is starting at catcher and batting seventh in Saturday's game against the White Sox.

Haase appeared as a pinch hitter in Friday's season opener and went 1-for-2 with a solo home run. He'll now pick up his first start of the year, with Tucker Barnhart heading to the bench. Haase offers more pop than Barnhart, so he should continue to see regular playing time as the Tigers look to increase offensive production.

  • Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Not starting Saturday

Barnhart isn't starting Saturday's game against the White Sox, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Barnhart drew the start behind the dish Friday and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Eric Haase will start behind the dish and bat seventh after homering on Opening Day.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Belts first homer

Jansen went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 10-8 win over the Rangers.

His eighth-inning blast off Greg Holland gave the Blue Jays an insurance run during a game in which they were down 7-0 at one point before competing the largest comeback on a team's Opening Day since 1950. jansen's playing time is in question this season with Alejandro Kirk pushing for playing time, but Kirk got the nod at DH on Friday, and if Jansen keeps hitting, he'll keep finding his way onto manager Charlie Montoyo's lineup card.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Goes yard Friday

Garver went 2-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 10-8 loss to the Blue Jays.

His second-inning blast off Tayler Saucedo helped the Rangers build an early 7-0 lead that the pitching staff somehow squandered. Garver also hit cleanup behind Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, a spot in the batting order that would give the catcher's fantasy value an extra boost if he can hang onto it.
