  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Smacks three hits

Trevino went 3-for-3 with two singles and a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Orioles.

Trevino recorded the fourth three-hit game of his career Saturday night, with the highlight being his solo homer off Brooks Kriske that got the Rangers back into the game. Hopefully this performance spells the end of the backstop's slump, as Trevino entered play batting .077 in his last eight games.

  • Tom Murphy C | SF

Mariners' Tom Murphy: Not starting Saturday

Murphy is out of the lineup Saturday versus the Angels.

Murphy went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout Friday and will take a seat for the second time in the past three games. Cal Raleigh will work behind the plate for Seattle.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Not in Saturday's lineup

Heim will sit Saturday against Baltimore.

Heim sits after making a pair of starts behind the plate. He's gone hitless in five straight games and has just three hits in his last 11, dragging his season slash line down to .188/.228/.341. Jose Trevino takes over at catcher.

  • Eric Haase C | CHW

Tigers' Eric Haase: Not starting Saturday

Haase is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

Haase has had a very encouraging season, but he's stumbling a bit down the stretch. He hasn't had a multi-hit game since he returned from an abdominal injury in late August, hitting .183/.244/.310 in 21 games over that stretch. Dustin Garneau will start behind the plate Saturday.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

    Athletics' Yan Gomes: Sitting Saturday

Gomes is not in Saturday's lineup against the Astros.

He is in the midst of a modest six-game hitting streak, batting .350 with one home run in 20 at-bats over that stretch. Sean Murphy will start behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Gets Saturday off

Vazquez will sit Saturday against the Yankees.

Vazquez sits after starting three straight games behind the plate. He's been in good form thus far in September, hitting .315/.351/.463 in 16 games. Kevin Plawecki will spell him behind the plate.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Angels' Max Stassi: Ends power outage

Stassi went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Mariners.

Stassi slammed a two-run home run off Logan Gilbert in the fourth inning to put the Angels on the board. In addition, he drove in Jack Mayfield on a sixth-inning single. It was Stassi's first long ball since Aug. 19, and since that date he's batting .174. On the season, the catcher is slashing .251/.334/.434 with 12 home runs, 33 RBI and 43 runs scored in 302 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Serving as DH on Friday

Kirk will serve as the designated hitter Friday against the Twins.

Kirk sat the past two games in favor of Reese McGuire and Danny Jansen but he will return to the lineup as the DH on Friday. He is hitless across his last 13 at-bats dating back to Sept. 21.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Back on bench

Garver will sit Friday against Toronto.

Garver has started every other game since returning from a lower-back strain Tuesday. Ryan Jeffers will take over behind the plate Friday.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Resting Friday

Grandal will sit Friday against Cleveland.

Grandal started both halves of Thursday's doubleheader, serving as the designated hitter in the nightcap after starting behind the plate in the afternoon contest. He'll get a well-deserved rest Friday, with Zack Collins making another start behind the plate.
