  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Mariners' Omar Narvaez: Not in Saturday's lineup

Narvaez will hit the bench Saturday against the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Narvaez remains the clear starting catcher in Seattle, starting seven of the team's first 10 games. Tom Murphy gets the call in his absence.

  • Indians' Kevin Plawecki: Swats first homer

Plawecki went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Getting his second start of the season, Plawecki made his first hit with Cleveland count. The 28-year-old remains firmly behind Roberto Perez on the depth chart, but Perez's limitations at the plate could eventually open the door for Plawecki to move into something closer to a timeshare if he heats up.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Out of lineup

Jansen is not in the lineup Friday against Cleveland.

Jansen has barely had the edge in starts behind the plate over Luke Maile so far this season, getting the call in just five of nine games (with an additional start as a designated hitter). The fact that he's gone just 2-for-21 at the plate so far this season isn't helping his case to expand his role.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Heads to bench

Vazquez is not in the lineup Friday against Arizona, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Vazquez remains the clear starter behind the plate in Boston despite hitting just .190 to start the year. He's gotten the nod six times in the first nine games. Blake Swihart takes his turn Friday.

  • Zack Collins C | CLE

White Sox's Zack Collins: Strong opener at plate

Collins went 3-for-5 with two home runs and a triple in a 12-11 win over Triple-A Durham on Thursday.

Collins had a .786 OPS with 15 home runs for Double-A Birmingham last year, which prompted his promotion to start the year. Offense hasn't been an issue for the 24-year-old, who has moved slowly through the minors primarily to improve his defense. Along with his impressive performance at the plate Thursday, he also surrendered one passed ball and one stolen base. Unless Collins can sustain a torrid pace at the plate or the White Sox overlook his defensive woes, he should remain the everyday catcher in Triple-A Charlotte.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Hits solo homer in win

Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Yankees' 8-4 win over the Orioles on Thursday.

The backstop went yard off Alex Cobb in the sixth inning, his third long ball in six games to start the season. Sanchez is hitting just .217 through 23 at-bats, but the three homers and .609 slugging percentage are encouraging signs that he will provide solid power numbers this season, even if he's not hitting for a high average.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Indians' Bo Naylor: Assigned to Low-A

Naylor will open the year with Low-A Lake County, MLB.com reports.

This isn't necessarily surprising, but it represents a vote of confidence from the Indians, as prep catching prospects are often promoted pretty slowly through the minors. Naylor hit .274/.381/.402 (126 wRC+) with two home runs and five steals in 33 games in the AZL last year. He should get most of his starts at catcher, but will likely continue to get the occassional start at third base.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Sits Wednesday

Vazquez is not in Wednesday's lineup against the A's, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

After starting five of the first six games and entering the other game off the bench, Vazquez gets a well-deserved rest. Blake Swihart will catch and hit eighth in his place.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Hitting cleanup Wednesday

Sanchez is back in the lineup Wednesday, catching and hitting fourth against the Tigers.

Sanchez got his first day off of the season Tuesday, but he's back in action for this contest against Detroit. He'll be deployed in the cleanup role for the first time this year, as manager Aaron Boone will hope he can keep his power stroke going after going yard in his previous two starts.

  • Royals' Cameron Gallagher: Continues to ride bench

Gallagher will sit out his fifth consecutive game with Martin Maldonado starting at catcher Wednesday.

Gallagher is yet to appear in a game as a starter or as a late-inning replacement with Maldonado spending the entire time behind the dish. Gallagher was initially expected to be the starter after veteran All-Star Salvador Perez underwent Tommy John surgery in March, but the Royals elected to go in a different direction after signing Maldonado at the end of spring training. For now, it looks like Gallagher's starts will be few and far between.
