Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Back in action Saturday
Grandal is starting at catcher and batting sixth in Saturday's game against the Rockies.
Grandal missed all of spring training due to plantar fasciitis in his foot, and he began the season on the 10-day injured list. He played in nine rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis, posting a .257/.316/.400 line with one home run and 11 RBI over 38 plate appearances. Grandal was activated from the IL on Friday, and he's set to make his 2024 debut Saturday against Rockies southpaw Austin Gomber.

Tyler Stephenson C | CIN
Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Hitless in return
Stephenson went 0-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Orioles.

Willson Contreras C | BOS
Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Perfect day at dish
Contreras went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's win over the White Sox.
Contreras scored runs in the first and fifth innings, both coming via Nolan Arenado doubles. Since his last multi-hit game April 17, Contreras had been stuck in a 9-for-43 (.209) slump over 12 games. Despite the streakiness, he still owns a strong .281/.395/.531 slash line through 114 plate appearances.

Giants' Patrick Bailey: Exits with blurred vision
Bailey was removed from Friday's game against the Phillies due to blurred vision, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Bailey was struck in the face mask by a foul tip off the bat of Alec Bohm during the first inning of Friday's contest and was later replaced by Tom Murphy in the second frame. The Giants are still in the process of evaluating Bailey, but an update on his status may become available after the game.

Sean Murphy C | ATL
Braves' Sean Murphy: Hitting off tee
Murphy (oblique) began hitting off a tee during Atlanta's series against Seattle earlier this week, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
It's the first time Murphy has swung the bat since landing on the 10-day IL on March 30 with a Grade 1 left oblique strain. Prior to the series in Seattle, Murphy was limited to light throwing and catching work in the bullpen. The 29-year-old still has a ways to go before starting a rehab assignment.

Yasmani Grandal C | PIT
Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Returns from injured list
The Pirates activated Grandal (foot) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Grandal got a late start to the season while battling plantar fasciitis in his left foot, but he participated in nine rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis and is feeling well enough to join the active roster after batting .257 (9-for-35) with two doubles and a homer. The veteran catcher is likely to share starts behind the dish with Joey Bart.

Henry Davis RF | PIT
Pirates' Henry Davis: Optioned to Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Davis to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Davis entered the season as the Pirates' clear No. 1 catcher, but he slashed just .162/.280/.206 with a 34.9 percent strikeout rate and recently had fallen into a timeshare with Joey Bart. The Pirates will presumably keep Davis at catcher at Indianapolis, although it's possible he could be worked back into the mix in right field.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Returns to lineup Friday
Moreno (mouth) will catch and bat seventh in Friday's contest against the Padres.
Moreno didn't play Wednesday following a dental procedure, but he's ready to go following the Diamondbacks' off day Thursday. The young catcher sports a disappointing .669 OPS on the season and has yet to go deep.

Yasmani Grandal C | PIT
Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Spotted at PNC Park
Grandal (foot) joined the Pirates at PNC Park on Friday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Grandal has not yet been activated from the injured list, but that seems likely to happen prior to Friday's game against the Rockies. The veteran catcher missed the first month-plus of the season due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot but has played nine rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis, posting a .716 OPS with one home run. Pittsburgh could send the struggling Henry Davis down to make room on the active roster for Grandal.
