  • Sandy Leon C | ATL

Marlins' Sandy Leon: Contract selected by Miami

Leon's contract was selected by the Marlins on Wednesday.

Leon was in camp as a non-roster invitee this spring and went 5-for-15 with two doubles, five RBI and four runs in 12 games. Although he was unable to break camp with the club, he'll join the major-league roster and will likely serve as catching depth behind Chad Wallach after Jorge Alfaro (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Plates two in three-hit night

Narvaez went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the 6-0 win over the Padres on Tuesday.

Narvaez has turned the tide from his struggles at the plate last year, lacing a team-high 17 hits and slashing .386/.451/.996 in 51 plate appearances. The Brewers signed him prior to last season in large part due to his offensive upside, and he is currently amongst the leaders in multiple batting categories for catchers.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Cleared to return to action

Nola (finger) has been given the green light to begin playing games at the Padres' alternate training site, Daniel Guerrero of MLB.com reports.

Nola has been gradually working his way back from the fracture to his middle finger on his left hand. He has been throwing to bases and is now able to take batting practice and play in games following an encouraging CT scan. It's unclear when he may return to the big-league squad given his long layoff, which has extended to over a month. "We'll kind of wait and see how the rhythm and timing goes," manager Jayce Tingler said, "but we're really encouraged that finally we're at the stage where he hadn't had any setbacks and the doctors feel like he can't injure it or it can't get worse." Tingler added that Nola's ability to participate in games is "going to be a matter of playing through pain."

  • Giants' Chadwick Tromp: Optioned to alternate site

Tromp was optioned to the Giants' alternate training site Monday.

Tromp was called up Sunday to give the Giants some extra catching depth with Buster Posey dealing with an elbow issue. While Posey still isn't starting Monday against the Phillies, the team is evidently confident he'll be available off the bench, as Tromp is no longer needed.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Joins first-inning homer parade

D'Arnaud went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs Sunday in Atlanta's 13-4 win over the Cubs.

D'Arnaud was one of four Atlanta players to leave the yard during a six-run first inning, which provided young starting pitcher Bryse Wilson with all the cushion he would need in the series finale. The long ball was d'Arnaud's first since April 4, ending an 11-game dry spell in which he slashed a porous .189/.231/.243. D'Arnaud's track record over the past two seasons coupled with his stranglehold on the No. 1 job in Atlanta over lightly used backup Alex Jackson is still enough to make the 32-year-old one of the top fantasy options at catcher, despite his slow start to 2021.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Not starting Sunday

Narvaez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Narvaez looks to be getting a routine maintenance day after he caught in each of the team's last three games. Manny Pina will get a turn behind the dish in Sunday's series finale, forming a battery with Freddy Peralta.

  • Giants' Chadwick Tromp: Back with big club

The Giants recalled Tromp from their alternate training site Sunday.

Tromp will give the Giants an extra healthy catcher for Sunday's series finale in Miami while Buster Posey (elbow) is banged up. The Giants continue to list Posey as day-to-day and are seemingly hopeful that he'll avoid a trip to the 10-day injured list, in which case Tromp's stay on the active roster will likely be brief.

  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Rests after three straight starts

Stallings is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

He'll get a breather for the series finale after making three straight starts behind the plate. Stallings -- who went hitless in 11 at-bats over that span -- will cede catching duties to Michael Perez.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Slugs second homer

Barnhart went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over Cleveland.

Barnhart gave Cincinnati an early lead with a 412-foot shot to center field in the second inning. The long ball was his second this season and pushed his RBI total to eight. The career .249 hitter is slashing .387/.424/.710 across 33 plate appearances in 2021. There's ample reason to be skeptical that he can sustain his early season success, but it's not the worst idea to ride his offensive surge for as long as he's swinging a hot stick.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Brings home two runs

Gomes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and an additional RBI during Saturday's 6-2 win against Arizona.

The 33-year-old started the scoring with his first homer of the season during the second inning, and he followed up with an RBI single two frames later. Gomes is off to a strong start through six games, going 7-for-19 since returning from the COVID-19 injured list.
