  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Resting Monday

Barnhart is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

Barnhart was behind the plate for the front end of Sunday's doubleheader with the Cardinals, going 0-for-4 in that contest before entering the nightcap as a pinch hitter and drawing a walk in his plate appearance. He'll just be getting some routine maintenance Monday while Curt Casali checks in at catcher.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Gets second straight start

Gomes will start at catcher and bat eighth Monday against the Mets.

He'll be rewarded with a second straight turn behind the dish after going 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Marlins. Though Gomes' production has been trending upward over the last couple of weeks, he still appears to be second on the depth chart at catcher behind Kurt Suzuki.

  • Cardinals' Andrew Knizner: Blasts second home run

Knizner went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a losing effort in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Reds on Sunday.

Knizner was recalled from Triple-A Memphis prior to the game and flashed his power with a 368-foot blast to left field the third inning. The 24-year-old is hitting just .196 in 46 at-bats with the Cardinals this season but fared much better in the minors, slashing .276/.357/.463 with 12 long balls in 66 games .

  • Tomas Nido C | DET

Mets' Tomas Nido: Activated from injury list

Nido (concussion) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Nido had been symptom-free for a handful of days since he suffered his concussion back on Aug. 24. He'll slot back in as the No. 2 catcher on the depth chart behind Wilson Ramos.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Heads to bench for Game 2

Barnhart is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Barnhart will watch from the dugout for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Game 1. Curt Casali is starting in favor of him at catcher and is hitting seventh.

  • Phillies' Deivy Grullon: Called up from Triple-A

The Phillies selected Grullon's contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.

The clear No. 3 option on the depth chart at catcher, Grullon isn't expected to function as anything more than an emergency option behind J.T. Realmuto and Andrew Knapp. The 23-year-old batted .283 with 21 home runs and 77 RBI in 457 plate appearances with Lehigh Valley this season.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Receives Sunday off

Smith is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Smith has alternated starts with Russell Martin over the last five games, and that trend continues Sunday after Smith went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Saturday's loss.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Day off Sunday

Hedges is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at San Francisco.

Hedges started the last four contests so he'll head to the bench in the series finale. Austin Allen will start behind the plate in his place.

  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Out of Sunday's lineup

Stallings is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Stallings went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk Saturday but will head to the bench in the series finale. Elias Diaz takes over behind the plate for Pittsburgh.

  • Cardinals' Andrew Knizner: Recalled by Cardinals

Knizner was recalled by the Cardinals on Sunday.

Knizner has made a few brief major-league appearances with the team this season but is now set to close out the campaign with the Cardinals. He's flashed his potential at the plate in August with Triple-A Memphis, hitting five home runs and two doubles in 13 games. While he may be the catcher of the future for the club, he doesn't figure to get much playing time to close the season behind both Yadier Molina and Matt Wieters.
