  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Rides pine Sunday

Hedges is not in Sunday's lineup against the Rockies.

Hedges has only started once in the last four games. Francisco Mejia will start behind the dish and hit sixth.

  • Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Recalled from Triple-A

Bemboom was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Kevin Smith was placed on the injured list with back spasms, so the Angels needed to add a second healthy catcher. Max Stassi, who is starting Sunday, will likely get the majority of the playing time in the short term. Bemboom hit .410 with two home runs in 11 games with the Bees after getting traded from the Rays for cash in mid-July.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Starting Sunday

Caratini is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Reds.

Caratini will end up starting the bookend games of the series, with Jonathan Lucroy picking up a start in between on Saturday. The two figure to continue splitting playing time while Willson Contreras (hamstring) is on the injured list.

  • Jake Rogers C | CHW

    Tigers' Jake Rogers: Sitting Sunday

Rogers is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Royals.

Rogers will get a breather after starting the first two games of the series, with John Hicks taking over Sunday. The 24-year-old Rogers is slashing .182/.308/.455 with three home runs through his first 10 games of MLB action, and the rebuilding Tigers will likely continue to give him plenty of playing time the rest of the season.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Out of Sunday's lineup

Perez is not in Sunday's lineup against the Twins.

He has just two hits in 28 at-bats this month. Kevin Plawecki will start behind the dish and hit ninth.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Out of Sunday's lineup

Jansen is not in Sunday's lineup against the Yankees.

He is hitting .186 with two home runs in 22 games since the All-Star break but has been providing quality defense amid the offensive struggles. Reese McGuire is starting at catcher and hitting ninth.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Homers in return to lineup

Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday.

In his first game since July 23, the power-hitting catcher got the Yankees on the board in the fourth inning with a 426-foot blast to center field. Sanchez is hitting only .229 this season but leads the team with 25 home runs and has collected 59 RBI.

Mariners' Omar Narvaez: Pounds solo shot

Narvaez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Rays.

Narvaez went deep off starter Charlie Morton in the fifth inning. The catcher is hitting .292/.365/.475 over 322 at-bats this season, adding 17 homers, 42 RBI and 52 runs scored. He hadn't gone yard since a two-homer game versus Oakland on July 16.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Gets night off

Smith isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Arizona.

Smith is headed for the bench after going 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI in Friday night's series opener. Russell Martin will handle the catching duties and hit eighth with Smith out of the mix.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Situated on bench

Caratini isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.

Caratini failed to register a hit in Friday's matchup, so the Cubs will turn to Jonathan Lucroy behind the dish for the third matchup of the series.
