  • Zack Collins C | CLE

White Sox's Zack Collins: Sidelined with concussion

Collins (concussion) was placed on the minor-league injured list Thursday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Collins is reportedly in concussion protocol after taking a foul tip off his mask earlier in the week. Prior to landing on the shelf, the 24-year-old was slashing .256/.370/.581 with seven homers in 24 games for Triple-A Charlotte.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Resting Thursday

Contreras is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.

Contreras will receive some routine maintenance for the matinee game before presumably rejoining the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Brewers. Backup Taylor Davis checks in behind the plate for Contreras, who is off to an 8-for-20 start in May.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Sitting Wednesday

Barnhart is not in the lineup Wednesday against the A's.

Barnhart will sit for Wednesday's night contest with an afternoon game on tap Thursday. In his place, Curt Casali is starting behind the dish and hitting seventh.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Remains out Wednesday

Jansen is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Twins.

Jansen will stick on the bench for a second consecutive game as Luke Maile picks up another start behind the dish in his stead. There has been no word regarding any injury, so it seems like the Blue Jays are simply giving the young backstop an extended breather -- the team is off the schedule Thursday -- in the midst of a 5-for-26 slump (.192) over his last 10 appearances.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Gets day off

Vazquez is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Vazquez will retreat to the bench for Wednesday's series finale after starting the previous two games behind the dish, going 4-for-7 with a double and two runs scored during those contests. Sandy Leon is starting and catcher and hitting ninth in this one.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Heads to bench

McCann will be on the bench Wednesday against Cleveland, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

McCann has moved into the primary catching role for the White Sox, starting eight of the last 12 games prior to Wednesday's contest. Welington Castillo gets the call in his absence.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

    Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Gets breather

Sanchez is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners.

Sanchez will retreat to the bench for what appears to be a routine day off following a string of nine consecutive starts during which he hit .273/.351/.758 with five homers and 10 RBI. Austin Romine is starting behind the dish and hitting eighth in this one.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: On bench Wednesday

Perez is on the bench for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Perez has started just shy of two-thirds of the Indians' games behind the plate, getting the call 23 times compared to 12 for Kevin Plawecki. Plawecki gets the nod for Wednesday's contest.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Back in action

Gomes (forearm) is in the lineup, catching and batting cleanup, against the Brewers on Wednesday.

He was plunked on the forearm by a pitch Monday, but X-rays were negative and Gomes is now ready to return after missing just one start. With the Nats shorthanded due to injuries, Gomes will slot into the four hole against right-hander Brandon Woodruff. It's his third career start batting out of the cleanup spot.

  • Brewers' Yasmani Grandal: Sitting for day game

Grandal is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals.

Grandal will head to the bench for Wednesday's day game after catching all nine innings and going 0-for-3 with a walk in Milwaukee's 6-0 win Tuesday night. Manny Pina is starting behind the dish and hitting seventh in this one.
