Bemboom won't need surgery on his sprained knee but will nevertheless miss 4-to-6 weeks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Bemboom appeared in just three games before heading to the injured list. He was only on the roster due to injuries to Mike Zunino (quadriceps) and Michael Perez (oblique), so he may not have a job to come back to once healthy.

Barnhart finds himself on the bench in consecutive games for the first time all season, with Curt Casali again getting the call. Barnhart hasn't been reportedly dealing with any injury, but some time out of the lineup may do him good, as he has just two hits in his last 14 games.

Hernandez's contract was selected by the Red Sox on Friday.

Hernandez will serve as the temporary backup to Christian Vazquez with Sandy Leon out on paternity leave. Hernandez has appeared in 22 major-league games but none since 2016, hitting .167/.239/.262. He shouldn't be counted on for much at the plate if he even sees any playing time with Boston, as he owns a .184/.268/.250 mark in the high minors over the last two seasons.

Leon was placed on paternity leave Friday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

Leon has hit .200/.294/.333 in 12 games for the Red Sox this season. Oscar Hernandez's contract was selected from Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move, leaving Hernandez as the temporary backup to Christian Vazquez. Leon should return within a few days.
