  • Devin Mesoraco blasts ninth home run

    Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco recorded three hits and smacked a home run Wednesday afternoon during a 6-0 win over the Cubs. Mesoraco went deep in the fourth inning for a solo shot.

    Mesoraco now has nine home runs on the season as he finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored. He's batting .248 on the year for Cincinnati.

    The 25-year-old backstop had just two hits in his previous nine appearances before the three-hit game Wednesday. He's not been a consistent hitter this year for the Reds.

  • Chris Stewart back for Yankees

    Yankees catcher Chris Stewart got the start on Tuesday in Baltimore after missing some time due to a foot issue. 

    Stewart went 1 for 2 with a run scored in his return and was lifted for a pinch-hitter. He is batting .217 on the year. 

  • Chris Stewart returns Tuesday

    Yankees catcher Chris Stewart has returned to the team's starting lineup Tuesday against the Orioles.

    Stewart will hit ninth against Miguel Gonzalez. In 265 at-bats, Stewart is hitting .215/.293/.279.

    Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco is not in the team's starting lineup Tuesday against the Cubs.

    Mesoraco will be replaced by Ryan Hanigan behind the plate. Mesoraco has dealt with with a hamstring issue recently, but was able to return Friday. He's hitting .242/.295/.365 in 293 at-bats. 

  • Chris Stewart not available for Yankees

    Yankees catcher Chris Stewart is likely unavailable Monday night in Baltimore, The Journal News reports. Manager Joe Girardi said Stewart is "probably not" available due to his left foot issue. He is day to day for the Yankees. 

  • Braves recall Christian Bethancourt

    The Braves have recalled prospect catcher Christian Bethancourt, MLB.com reports.

    Bethancourt is the final scheduled Braves callup of the season. The 22-year-old hit .277/.305/.436 with 12 home runs in 90 games for Double-A Mississippi.

  • Chris Stewart to have X-rays on injured foot

    Yankees catcher Chris Stewart suffered a left foot contusion while being hit by a pitch in Sunday's game against the Red Sox, and he will undergo precautionary X-rays, the team announced. Stewart was 1 for 1 with a run before exiting.

  • Devin Mesoraco Ks twice in return

    Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco returned to action Friday following a hamstring strain. Mesoraco took the field against the Dodgers and did not record a hit on the night.

    Mesoraco finished 0 for 3 with two strikeouts to drop his average to .242. He's gone 0 for 8 in his last three appearances for the Reds.

    In fact, Mesoraco has just two hits -- both coming in the same game -- over his last seven games.

  • Salvador Perez held without a hit vs. Tigers

    Royals catcher Salvador Perez, who took a hard foul ball off the mask Thursday, returned to action Friday night against the Tigers.

    Perez finished 0 for 2 with a strikeout and was replaced by George Kottaras in the top of the fifth inning. He is hitting .284 with 10 homers and 64 RBI in 422 at-bats.

    Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was back in the team's starting lineup Friday night against the Dodgers after missing Thursday due to a hamstring strain. Mesoraco is batting .245 in 286 at-bats. He's hitting eighth in the lineup.
