Royals catcher Salvador Perez missed Wednesday's game against the Yankees due to tightness in his lower right leg, MLB.com reports. It is the second time in the last four games he's sat out due to the ailment. 

"He's got a bone bruise and he's got a muscle bruise in his calf, which results in tightness in the calf," manager Ned Yost said. "So what we're trying to do is monitor his play right now so that we can get that tightness out of there, because if that tightness continues to get tighter, it will result in a strain, which will make him unavailable for a week to two weeks."

Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was able to play through lingering soreness in his back Wednesday in a 6-2 win over the Brewers.

Mesoraco was 0 for 3 in the game with an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. He also struck out. Mesorado is hitting .238 on the season. 

Royals catcher Salvador Perez is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Yankees, the club announced. Perez has played full games in seven of the last eight days, so he's likely just getting some rest. George Kottaras starts in his place.

Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco has been battling a sore back the last few days, but he was good enough to return to the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers.

"Mes said he was OK," manager Dusty Baker said, per the Cincinnati Enquirer. "He usually catches (Mike) Leake. They’ve done pretty well together. He got here early for treatment, like he’s supposed to do. If you get here early for treatment, it shows me you might be ready or trying to get ready."

The Giants placed catcher Hector Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a right shoulder strain. He has hit .237/.326/.237 with three RBI in 38 at-bats.

Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco said his back is still hurting Tuesday a day after returning to the lineup against the Brewers, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Mesoraco doesn't believe he's headed to the disabled list.

"Another day, two or three and it should be OK," Mesoraco said.

The Padres announced Monday that catcher Yasmani Grandal has "significant damage" to the ACL and MCL in his right need and will undergo surgery in a few weeks.

Grandal suffered the injury on a play at the plate during a slide by Nationals second baseman Anthony Rendon. The surgery means Grandal will end the season with a .216/.352/.341 line, one home run and nine RBI in 88 at-bats.

Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was a late addition to the team's starting lineup Monday.

Ryan Hanigan was initally scheduled to start against the Brewers, but has been scratched. No reason has been given for the change. Mesoraco will hit eighth and face off against Kyle Lohse. He's hitting .248/.326/.373 in 153 at-bats. 

Tigers catching prospect James McCann, playing at Double-A Erie, replaced Chicago catcher Josh Phegley, who hit his first career homer Sunday, on the roster for Team USA in the Futures Game, MLB.com reports. 

McCann was Detroit's top pick two years ago in the First-Year Player Draft. McCann struggled hitting in his first pro season but is batting .288 with 15 doubles, three homers and 36 RBI this season. Manager Jim Leyland said he's defensively good enough to play in the majors.

Yankees catcher Chris Stewart was a thorn in Baltimore's side for the entire three-game series against the Orioles. On Sunday, Stewart recorded two hits and added a walk. 

Stewart went 2 for 2 with a walk in the 2-1 loss Sunday. He also stole his fourth base of the season. 

The 31-year-old backstop went 3 for 6 in the series with four walks for the Yankees. He's batting .248 on the year with 13 RBI.
