Carson Kelly C | CHC
Cubs' Carson Kelly: Goes deep twice Friday
Kelly went 2-for-4 with a walk, two home runs, three total runs scored and five RBI in Friday's 13-11 win over the Diamondbacks.
Kelly had a monster game, going deep in the second inning with a runner on and then again in the eighth with three runners on. The veteran catcher now has six home runs and an absurd 1.675 OPS for the season. Kelly has seen his role grow due to the hot start, though Miguel Amaya is still seeing plenty of playing time as well.

Elias Diaz C | KC
Padres' Elias Diaz: Not starting Friday
Diaz is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Astros on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Diaz will hit the bench for Friday's series opener after going 0-for-3 with one run scored and one walk in his last start Wednesday against the Cubs. Martin Maldonado will start behind home plate and bat ninth against Houston right-hander Ryan Gusto.

Connor Wong C | BOS
Red Sox's Connor Wong: Hitting off tee
Wong (finger) has progressed to hitting off a tee, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Recovering from a fractured left pinky finger, Wong hasn't done much catching yet but is expected to be cleared for that soon. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday that Wong could return in around two-and-a-half weeks, while the catcher believes it'll be sooner than that.

Austin Wells C | NYY
Yankees' Austin Wells: Battling food poisoning
Wells is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rays due to food poisoning, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Wells received a routine day off Thursday and will miss a second straight game after he woke up ill overnight. Consider him day-to-day. J.C. Escarra will do the catching and bat sixth for the Yankees on Friday.

Edgar Quero C | CHW
White Sox's Edgar Quero: Not in Friday's lineup
Quero is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.
Quero was summoned for his major-league debut Thursday and started at catcher versus the Athletics, but he'll be on the bench as the White Sox begin a weekend series versus the Red Sox. The 22-year-old should still ultimately see the bulk of the playing time at catcher on the South Side, but Matt Thaiss is drawing the start Friday.

Dillon Dingler C | DET
Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Resting Friday
Dingler is not in the Tigers' starting lineup against the Royals on Friday.
Dingler will take a seat for the second game of the series, with Tomas Nido starting behind home plate and batting eighth against Royals southpaw Cole Ragans. Dingler is slashing .306/.320/.510 with five runs scored, two home runs and nine RBI across 50 plate appearances this season.

Christopher Suero C | NYM
Mets' Chris Suero: Hot start at High-A
Suero is batting .375 (13-for-37) with six doubles and five home runs in 10 games for High-A Brooklyn.
The 21-year-old catcher is repeating the level after finishing the 2024 campaign at High-A, but Suero is making a strong case for a quick promotion. Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Suero has been getting defensive reps at first base and left field and might even see time in center field, as the organization tries to take full advantage of his athleticism. He'll need to improve his plate discipline (2:14 BB:K at Brooklyn to begin the year) to thrive at higher levels, however.

Rob Brantly C | MIA
Marlins' Rob Brantly: Three hits in Thursday's loss
Brantly went 3-for-3 with an RBI in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
The veteran backstop picked up his first hits and first RBI of 2025 in his second game for the Marlins this season. Brantly doesn't offer a lot of upside at the plate given his career .227/.287/.325 slash line in the majors, but with Liam Hicks struggling (.522 OPS over 45 plate appearances), Brantly could see more playing time than expected while Nick Fortes (oblique) is on the shelf.

Cal Raleigh C | SEA
Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Homers again Thursday
Raleigh went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Thursday's 11-7 win over the Reds.
Raleigh got Seattle's comeback started in the ninth inning with a 422-foot blast off Emilio Pagan to lead off the frame. It's the third homer in two games for Raleigh and his eighth of the year, good for second most in the majors. The 28-year-old catcher is slashing .216/.310/.581 with 12 runs scored, 11 RBI and three stolen bases through his first 84 plate appearances this season.

Austin Hedges C | CLE
Guardians' Austin Hedges: Belts solo homer
Hedges went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in Thursday's 6-2 loss to Cleveland.
Hedges battled Tomoyuki Sugano in a nine-pitch at-bat in the third inning, with the former coming out on top with a solo homer to left field to give the Guardians a temporary 2-1 lead. Across his six starts this season, Hedges has gone 3-for-15 with five walks, two runs scored and two solo homers. He should continue to see semi-regular starts as Cleveland's No. 2 backstop.
