Matt Thaiss C | BOS
White Sox's Matt Thaiss: Sitting Saturday
Thaiss isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.
Thaiss will get a chance to rest Saturday after going 3-for-13 with an RBI and two run scored through his first six games of the season. Korey Lee will catch for Davis Martin instead and bat eighth.

Patrick Bailey C | CLE
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Two doubles in three-hit game
Bailey went 3-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in Friday's 10-9 extra-innings win over the Mariners.
Bailey had gone 0-for-9 across his previous five games. The 25-year-old is seeing a majority of the playing time behind the plate over Sam Huff while Tom Murphy (back) is on the 60-day injured list. Bailey hit .234 with a .637 OPS over 121 games in 2024, so while the steady playing time is nice, the rest of his offensive production is pretty standard for a catcher. He's also a reigning Gold Glove winner, so his strong defense will afford him some leeway through slumps with the bat.

Samuel Basallo C | BAL
Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Injures hamstring
Basallo was removed from Friday's game with left hamstring discomfort, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Basallo has battled an elbow issue since late in spring training, which limited him to DH duties to start the year with Triple-A Norfolk. The severity of the hamstring issue is unclear, but it's been a bumpy start to the season for Basallo.

Jose Trevino C | CIN
Reds' Jose Trevino: Sitting down Friday
Trevino isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers.
Trevino has gone 3-for-14 through his first six games of the season, and he'll get a chance to catch his breath Saturday while Austin Wynns starts behind the plate and bats ninth.

Sean Murphy C | ATL
Braves' Sean Murphy: Nearing activation
Murphy (rib) is starting at catcher Friday for Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday and is expected to be activated from the 10-day IL by Atlanta before the end of this weekend's series versus Miami, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The 30-year-old began his rehab assignment with Gwinnett on Tuesday and will catch for Spencer Strider (elbow) in his own rehab start Friday. Murphy suffered the rib fracture in early March, but it appears he'll only end up missing the first week-plus of the regular season. Prospect Drake Baldwin has been filling in as Atlanta's primary backstop but could soon be headed back to Triple-A.

Jonah Heim C | ATH
Rangers' Jonah Heim: Out of lineup Friday
Heim is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.
Kyle Higashioka will make another start behind the plate, catching for Tyler Mahle. Through eight games, each catcher has been in the starting lineup four times. Heim is slashing .308/.308/.769 with two home runs, two RBI and two runs scored through 13 plate appearances on the young season.

J.C. Escarra C | NYY
Yankees' J.C. Escarra: Notches first big-league hit
Escarra went 1-for-4 with a double in Thursday's 9-7 victory over Arizona.
With Austin Wells getting a game off, Escarra made his first start of the campaign. The 29-year-old enjoyed a personal milestone in the seventh inning when he hit a double to right field for his first hit as a major-leaguer. Escarra is a feel-good story -- he made the Yankees' Opening Day roster this year after being out of affiliated ball in 2022 and 2023 -- but his fantasy viability is limited due to his role as a backup to Wells, though Escarra does have the ability to play at both corner-infield and corner-outfield spots if needed.

Francisco Alvarez C | NYM
Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Hitting in cage Friday
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Alvarez (hand) will catch a bullpen session and hit in the batting cage Friday, SNY.tv reports.
Alvarez is ramping up baseball activities as he works his way back from surgery on a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. There is no firm timeline yet for Alvarez's return, but he could still rejoin the Mets before the end of April.
