  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Doubles twice in win

Rice went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Padres.

Rice knocked a double in the first frame and later hit a two-run double during the Yankees' 10-run seventh inning. He entered Tuesday's contest in a bit of a cold spell; he'd gone 8-for-46 (.174) with just one multi-hit game over his previous 14 contests, though he hit three homers during that span. Rice bumped his OPS up to .935 with 17 extra-base hits and 15 RBI through 127 plate appearances.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Battling hip tightness

Diaz exited Tuesday's game against the Phillies early due to right hip tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz suffered the injury during a swing in the sixth inning and wasn't able to finish his at-bat. However, manager Kevin Cash said after the game that the issue isn't anything too serious and expects the 33-year-old to be back in the starting lineup Wednesday.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Exits early Tuesday

Diaz was removed from Tuesday's game against the Phillies due to an apparent leg injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz was favoring his right leg after taking an awkward swing during the sixth inning, and he was replaced by Christopher Morel in the middle of his at-bat. An update on Diaz should come once the Rays' medical staff is able to take a closer look at him, but he can be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Kyle Manzardo 1B | CLE

Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: Not starting nightcap

Manzardo isn't in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Manzardo will sit out the final game of Tuesday's activities after going 0-for-4 with an RBI and scoring a run during the early game. His absence will move Jose Ramirez to the DH spot, while Will Wilson starts at third base and bats seventh.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Not being considered for first base

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that he has not had a conversation with Devers about playing first base with Triston Casas (knee) out and doesn't plan to, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

While Devers hasn't started a game at a position other than third base in pro ball, he would appear best suited of all of Boston's internal options to handle first base following Casas' season-ending knee injury. However, Cora plans to stick with Devers as his designated hitter and use a combination of Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro at first base for the time being.

  • Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Shut down after cortisone shot

Yoshida (shoulder) said Tuesday that he received a cortisone shot a few days ago and will remain shut down from throwing for three more days, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Yoshida's throwing has not gone as well as hoped as he comes back from right shoulder surgery, as he still feels pain when tossing from 120 feet. He is able to hit without issue, but the Red Sox don't want to return him to the active roster until he's capable of playing the outfield. Yoshida is currently on the 10-day injured list, but with his return nowhere in sight, he's a candidate to be moved to the 60-day IL when/if the Red Sox need to free a spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Goes on IL with hand inflammation

The Astros placed Alvarez on the 10-day injured list Monday with right hand inflammation, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Alvarez had missed the previous two games with the injury, and while manager Joe Espada had indicated imaging on Alvarez's hand wouldn't be necessary, the designed hitter is now on his way back to Houston to have the hand checked out. The 27-year-old Alvarez dealt with nagging right hand inflammation a couple years ago, but it's not clear whether this latest injury is viewed as a recurrence. Jose Altuve will serve as the designated hitter for the Astros on Monday in Milwaukee, and Yainer Diaz and/or Zach Dezenzo will also likely see increased action at DH while Alvarez is out.

  • Mickey Gasper 1B | BOS

Twins' Mickey Gasper: Moved to Triple-A

The Twins optioned Gasper to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday.

Gasper has provided the Twins with versatility but not much else this season, managing just a .488 OPS over 17 contests. He's among the corresponding moves to clear space on the active roster for the returns of Royce Lewis (hamstring) and Willi Castro (oblique) from the injured list.

  • Kyle Manzardo 1B | CLE

Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: On base four times

Manzardo went 2-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Manzardo shook off a 1-for-14 stretch with his fifth multi-hit game of the season. The steal was his first as a big-leaguer and just his fifth since becoming a professional in 2021.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Improving, sitting again Sunday

Alvarez (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, though manager Joe Espada said the slugger is feeling better and isn't expected to require medical imaging, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Alvarez was scratched from Saturday's starting nine due to inflammation in his right hand, and he'll sit for a second consecutive game in Chicago. The 27-year-old doesn't appear to be dealing with a serious injury, though the fact medical imaging hasn't been completely ruled out could indicate Alvarez will miss another game or two after Sunday.
