  • Padres' David Peralta: Sitting Monday

Peralta is not in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Athletics.

With Manny Machado (hip) returning from a four-game absence Monday and serving as the designated hitter, the Padres have opted to start Donovan Solano at third base, which will bump Peralta to the dugout. Peralta went 5-for-12 with two doubles and two RBI in the four-game series against the Diamondbacks. Since his promotion to the majors May 22, Peralta is slashing .250/.351/.313 with three RBI over 37 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Returning to lineup Monday

Padres manager Mike Shildt said in an interview on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Machado (hip) will be back in the lineup Monday versus the Athletics as the team's designated hitter.

Machado was held out of the lineup for the previous four games due to a strained right hip flexor, although he was able to pinch hit once over that stretch. He will be eased back into the mix Monday as the club's DH, with a return to third base coming "hopefully sooner than later," per Shildt.

  • Alec Burleson LF | STL

Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Homers in Sunday's win

Burleson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Rockies.

Burleson is up to nine homers this year, four of which he's hit over nine contests in June. He's batting .237 (9-for-38) this month, but that slight drop in hitting has yet to cost him the everyday role he earned with a strong May. The outfielder is slashing .273/.305/.448 with 24 RBI, 20 runs scored, two stolen bases and seven doubles over 203 plate appearances on the year, and he's routinely batted second in the order over the last week.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Absence continuing Sunday

Machado (hip) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Diamondbacks, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Machado continues to nurse a strained right hip flexor and will sit Sunday for the fourth straight game. The 31-year-old appeared as a pinch hitter in the first of those absences Thursday but otherwise hasn't seen game action since he suffered the injury Wednesday. Donovan Solano is receiving another start at the hot corner in the series finale against Arizona.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Giants' Jorge Soler: Taking seat Sunday

Soler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Soler started the previous six games and will head to the bench Sunday after he posted a .667 OPS during that stretch. Wilmer Flores will serve as the designated hitter while Trenton Brooks starts at first base.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Clubs homer in loss

Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Rockies.

Carpenter got the Cardinals back within a run with his seventh-inning blast, but they couldn't build on it. Both of his homers this season have come over his last nine games. The designated hitter is at a .200/.294/.317 slash line with five RBI, six runs scored, one double and no stolen bases through 68 plate appearances. Carpenter has seen steadier playing time at designated hitter with Alec Burleson filling in as an outfielder due to the absence of Lars Nootbaar (oblique).

  • Padres' David Peralta: Gets aboard four times in win

Peralta went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one walk, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 13-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

Peralta has a pair of three-hit games since he joined the Padres on May 22, but he's gone just 1-for-22 over his other 11 contests. His two doubles Saturday were his first extra-base hits of the campaign. Peralta is slashing .241/.333/.310 with no home runs, three RBI, four runs scored and no stolen bases. While he's seeing steady time as a strong-side platoon player, he hasn't displayed enough consistency at the plate to warrant widespread fantasy consideration.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Sitting out third straight

Machado (hip) isn't in the Padres' lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Machado will miss his third start in a row Saturday, although he was able to participate in pregame drills for the first time since straining his right hip flexor Wednesday, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Donovan Solano will continue to fill in for Machado at third base, batting fifth against right-hander Ryne Nelson.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Swipes bag in loss

Pederson went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Padres.

Pederson went 0-for-12 with two walks and six strikeouts over his first four games in June, though a run of opposing left-handed starters has limited his playing time this month. He was able to find some success against San Diego right-hander Michael King in Friday's contest, which also saw Pederson earn his third steal of the season and second in his last six games. The designated hitter is at a .290/.390/.510 slash line with seven home runs, 21 RBI, 19 runs scored and 10 doubles over 53 contests in his usual strong-side platoon role.

  • Marlins' Bryan De La Cruz: Knocks three hits

De La Cruz went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Friday's win over Cleveland.

De La Cruz put the Marlins on the board with his solo shot in the third inning and later smacked another extra-base hit. He's gone deep 11 times this season, though just two of those have come in his last 17 contests. He's slashing .252/.306/.427 with 21 extra-base hits and 28 RBI through 268 plate appearances this season.
