Mets' Mark Vientos: Hits first career homer

Vientos went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 10-4 loss to the Athletics on Saturday.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Giants' Joc Pederson: On bench against righty

Pederson will sit Saturday against Arizona.

Pederson's only off days against right-handers thus far this season have been due to injury, so it's possible his absence Saturday against Merrill Kelly indicates some sort of physical issue. On the other hand, it's also possible the Giants simply want to spread the playing time around at the end of a disappointing season. Whatever the reason, it will be LaMonte Wade who starts in left field Saturday.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

    Dodgers' Justin Turner: Resting Saturday

Turner isn't starting Saturday against the Cardinals.

Turner went 5-for-18 with a run, a walk and three strikeouts over the last five games and will get a day off Saturday. Max Muncy is starting at third base and batting fifth.

  • Mets' Daniel Vogelbach: On bench against another lefty

Vogelbach remains on the bench Saturday against Oakland, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Vogelbach continues to sit against every lefty the Mets face, a trend which will continue here against Ken Waldichuk. Mark Vientos will again serve as the designated hitter.

  • Mets' Daniel Vogelbach: Sits against southpaw

Vogelbach will be on the bench Friday against the Athletics, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Vogelbach hasn't started a single game against a southpaw since his move to New York, and that won't change here against Cole Irvin. Righty Mark Vientos will serve as the designated hitter.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Giants' Joc Pederson: Sits against left-hander

Pederson isn't starting Friday against the Diamondbacks, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Pederson will get a breather since southpaw Tommy Henry is on the mound for Arizona on Friday. Luis Gonzalez is taking over in left field and batting ninth.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Not in Friday's lineup

Morel isn't starting Friday against the Pirates.

Morel is getting a breather after he went 1-for-5 with a double, two RBI, a run, two walks and three strikeouts over the last two games. David Bote will start at the hot corner and bat third.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

    Cubs' Franmil Reyes: Breather Friday

Reyes is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Pirates.

Reyes will get a breather after he started the last two games, going 1-for-6 with four strikeouts. Jared Young will take over at designated hitter and bat eighth versus Pittsburgh.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Giants' Joc Pederson: Collects three hits

Pederson went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Rockies.

Pederson has enjoyed the Giants' four-game set in Colorado -- he's started in three of the games and gone 6-for-14 with three RBI. The outfielder has gone 0-for-9 across his previous four games before this road trip. He's up to a .268/.343/.504 slash line with 22 home runs, 66 RBI, 50 runs scored and three stolen bases through 402 plate appearances this season, primarily playing versus right-handed pitchers.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Drives in two Thursday

Morel went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Pirates.

Morel batted ninth but still delivered a big hit, driving in two on his second-inning double, helping the Cubs to a 3-2 victory. The rookie continues to produce solid stats, as he now has a .738 OPS and 41 RBI across 103 games to go along with 14 home runs and 10 stolen bases. Morel could be in for a breakout 2023 campaign if he's able to limit strikeouts and make more consistent contact, as he came into Thursday striking out 32.5 percent of the time this year.
