Fairbanks signed a three-year, $12 million contract extension with the Rays on Friday, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Passan adds that the arbitration-covering deal includes a $7 million fourth-year club option, which could potentially secure what would have been Fairbanks' first year of free-agent eligibility. The 29-year-old right-hander again had to contend with injuries in 2022, but he dominated to the tune of a 1.13 ERA and 38:3 K:BB ratio in 24 innings when healthy. Fairbanks currently projects as the favorite for saves in Tampa Bay leading into the 2023 campaign, though history suggests the closer role will be a carousel as the season plays out. It's just how the Rays tend to operate.

Voth has avoided arbitration with the Orioles and signed a one-year contract Thursday, which includes a club option for 2024.

Voth will be guaranteed $1.85 million with this new deal, and the 2024 option is worth $2.45 million with escalators that could add another $500,000. The 30-year-old right-hander struggled out of the gate last season with Washinton before moving on to Baltimore and registering a sharp 3.04 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 17 starts and five relief appearances covering 83 innings. He projects to operate in a swingman role again for the O's in 2023, shuffling between long relief and emergency starting/opening duties.

King (elbow) expects to be ready for the start of the season, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

King missed the final two-plus months of the 2022 season after fracturing his right elbow. The 27-year-old was excellent before the injury with a 2.29 ERA over 51 innings and a 66:16 K:BB ratio over 34 appearances. Assuming good health, King should be a bridge to Clay Holmes in the late innings.

Sewald (heel/elbow) may miss the start of spring training, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

Sewald underwent a "minor clean-up of his heel and elbow" in the offseason. While there is not a specific timeline for when he'll be able to return, it does sound like the right-hander will be ready for the start of the season. If healthy, he should see a significant amount of save chances in 2023.

Barnes was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

This is the corresponding 40-man roster move for Boston's completion of a free-agent agreement with Adam Duvall. Barnes is due $8.375 million in 2023 and carries a $2.25 million buyout on his $8 million club option for 2024, but he gets the boot after struggling to a 4.31 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 34:21 K:BB over 39.2 innings last season. Because of the money owed, Barnes will almost certainly pass through waivers unclaimed. He figures to then move on to another team. Kenley Jansen is the heavy favorite for saves in the Red Sox bullpen leading into the 2023 campaign.

Taylor (back) was traded from Boston to Kansas City on Monday in exchange for Adalberto Mondesi and a player to be named later, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Taylor owns a 3.69 ERA and a 29.4 percent strikeout rate in 102.1 career innings of relief. The lefty missed all of last season while dealing with back issues, with two separate rehab stints getting paused due to setbacks, but the Royals evidently felt confident enough in his health to acquire him. If he's fully healthy this year, he could be a useful weapon for his new team, though he's unlikely to see many save chances.

Alexy was designated for assignment Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

This move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Michael Taylor, who was acquired from the Royals on Monday in exchange for Steven Cruz and Evan Sisk. Alexy appeared in five games for the Rangers in 2022, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and nine walks while fanning six over seven innings of work. He was then traded to the Twins from the Rangers on Jan. 10.

Rodriguez re-signed with the Twins on a minor-league contract Thursday.

Rodriguez made two relief appearances for the Twins in 2022 but spent most of the year at Triple-A St. Paul, where he held a 4.75 ERA and 92:32 K:BB over 94.2 innings. The 30-year-old will provide some rotation depth for Minnesota.

Chapman agreed to a one-year, $3.75 million contract with the Royals on Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

He'll have an opportunity to earn more in incentives. Chapman is coming off a disappointing season which saw him put up a 4.46 ERA with just nine saves for the Yankees, but it's possible he'll get another chance to close for the Royals. Scott Barlow should remain Kansas City's closer to open 2023 after he posted a 2.18 ERA last season, but Chapman could push for the job with a strong start to the campaign.

Garrett signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Thursday.

Garrett elected free agency after recently being outrighted off the Nationals' 40-man roster but winds up staying in the Beltway area. The 30-year-old held a 6.75 ERA over seven relief appearances for the Nats in 2022.
