The Blue Jays recalled Thornton from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

He'll join the big club ahead of Tuesday's series opener with the White Sox and will serve as a replacement in the bullpen for lefty Ryan Borucki, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Thornton previously made 10 relief appearances for Toronto earlier this season, compiling a 3.52 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 15.1 innings.

Borucki has no minor-league options remaining, so any team that puts in a waiver claim or trades for the 28-year-old lefty will have to keep him on its 26-man active roster. He had endured a rough start to the 2022 season, spending time on the injured list with a hamstring strain and a blister on his pitching hand while giving up seven earned runs and walking five over 6.1 innings out of the Toronto bullpen.

Tampa Bay selected Armstrong's contract from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

The Rays designated lefty reliever Ben Bowden for assignment and placed shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list. Before signing with the Rays on a minor-league deal earlier this month, Armstrong made seven appearances in the majors with Miami this season, covering 6.2 innings and giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits and three walks.

Lowther was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.

Lowther made his MLB debut last season, struggling to a 6.67 ERA in 29.2 innings as a swingman. He owns an awful 8.26 ERA through 28.1 frames for Norfolk this season, but he could be needed to provide length behind opening pitcher Bryan Baker in Tuesday's game against the Mariners in what is shaping up to be a bullpen day for the Orioles. Cody Sedlock was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Alexander (elbow) was charged with five earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over three innings in his first rehab start Monday at Triple-A Toledo.

Pitching in a game for the first time since April 29 after being sidelined with a left elbow sprain, Alexander wasn't particularly sharp, with Tigers manager A.J. Hinch noting that the southpaw had "a couple bad changeups," per Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press. Alexander at least displayed decent control during the outing, pumping in 36 of his 51 pitches for strikes. He's scheduled to make his second rehab start with Toledo on Saturday, and Hinch said that he wants Alexander to get stretched out to around 90 pitches before he's activated from the 15-day injured list and reinstalled in the big-league rotation. With that in mind, Alexander could need a third rehab start prior to being reinstated.

Sedlock was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

Sedlock made his major-league debut Sunday against the Red Sox, but he was hit hard for five runs in three innings. Zac Lowther was promoted from Norfolk in a corresponding move to provide a fresh multi-inning arm for Tuesday's bullpen game versus the Mariners.

Rosenberg was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Rosenberg has spent two brief periods on the big-league roster this season but has only made one appearance, allowing a run in one inning of work. In five starts for Salt Lake, he owns an excellent 1.73 ERA, though he's likely to work out of the bullpen during his time with the Angels.

The Twins recalled Sands from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of his scheduled start in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Tigers.

Though Minnesota's rotation is in flux with Sonny Gray (pectoral) considered day-to-day and at risk of landing on the injured list, Sands is unlikely to stick around with the big club beyond Tuesday's start. Even if Gray is forced to the IL, the Twins should get Joe Ryan (illness) back from the COVID-19-related IL in the coming days to fill a spot in the rotation. That being said, Sands could make for a decent streaming option Tuesday while facing off against a weak Tigers offense that will be without two of its better everyday hitters in Robbie Grossman (neck) and Austin Meadows (vertigo), who are both on the 10-day injured list. Between his six appearances (five starts) at Triple-A and two relief outings with the big club this season, Sands has struck out 27 and issued only six walks over 22.2 innings.

The Red Sox optioned Winckowski to Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday.

As expected, Winckowski's stint in the big leagues lasted just one game, as Boston summoned him from the minors to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Orioles when the team required a temporary sixth member of the rotation. The 23-year-old right-hander was handed the loss in his MLB debut after surrendering four earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over three innings.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said he expects Winder (shoulder) to return from the 15-day injured list at some point next week, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Winder was cleared to resume throwing over the weekend and could head out on a rehab assignment within a few days if he experiences no issues with his shoulder while throwing off a mound and facing hitters. Winder could have a starting role waiting for him when he returns if Sonny Gray's pectoral issue results in a trip to the IL.
