Brentz (3-2) pitched a perfect inning and struck out two, earning the win in Saturday's 9-8 win over Detroit.

Brentz put in a solid effort in the top of the seventh inning, and Kansas City rallied for five runs in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead. The southpaw had some struggles in late June that carried over into early July, but he's put together four straight scoreless outings spanning 2.2 innings. He's posted a 2.91 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 52:27 K:BB with 11 holds across 43.1 innings overall, but a FIP of 4.40 indicates some regression could be on the way.

McHugh was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right arm fatigue, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. The move is retroactive to July 22.

McHugh earned the win Wednesday after delivering two scoreless frames, but he hasn't pitched since while dealing with the arm fatigue. The 34-year-old has no timeline for his return but will be eligible to be activated from the injured list Aug. 1.

Stephan allowed three runs on four hits in one inning during Saturday's 8-2 loss to Tampa Bay.

Stephan has received just four appearances in July, allowing four runs across six innings. He hasn't had more than two consecutive scoreless outings since May, which has kept the right-hander in a low-leverage role. The 25-year-old rookie has a 4.89 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 42:18 K:BB with 10 home runs allowed through 35 innings.

Maton has earned holds in three of his five appearances since the All-Star break.

He's allowed one run on four hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in that span. Maton's season numbers aren't great -- 4.43 ERA, 1.28 WHIP -- but he's given up just three runs in his last 17 appearances. The right-hander has added four holds, a blown save and a 2-0 record. With James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase both inconsistent in their shared closer role lately, Maton's strong pitching of late could lead to more late-inning work going forward.

Thornton was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Thornton is back with Toronto after spending nearly the past three weeks in the minors. The right-hander has a 4.78 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 41:14 K:BB across 37.2 innings this season, and he should be a low-leverage option out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays.

Barria was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Sunday at Minnesota.

The right-hander was already announced as the starter for Sunday's contest, and he's now officially rejoined the big-league roster. Barria has made only two appearances in the majors this season and gave up seven runs on seven hits with one strikeout and five walks over six frames. Alex Claudio was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Ottavino (2-3) allowed two runs on three hits over a third of an inning to pick up the loss against the Yankees on Saturday.

Ottavino entered a situation not unlike several others this season -- the eighth inning with runners on base -- but the reliever, who previously prevented 19 of 20 inherited runners from scoring, could not get it done Saturday. A 70.3 mph bloop ground-rule double, followed by a hard-hit double off the wall, then a 72.8 mph bloop single completed New York's comeback from a 3-0 deficit to start the eighth inning.

Pressly allowed a solo home run and a walk while striking out out three in a non-save situation against the Rangers on Saturday.

It was just the second home run allowed in 41 innings for Pressly, who hadn't pitched since Wednesday. He entered in the ninth inning with Houston holding a 4-0 lead, his second consecutive non-save situation. Teams typically don't want their closer going too long without pitching.

Taylor's fastball velocity has decreased recently, but he says it is not due to injury, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Taylor has averaged 93.2 mph with his four-seamer, but the left-hander ended the eighth inning of Friday's game with a heater that measured just 86.9 mph. He averaged just 91.2 for the 18 four-seam fastballs he threw during the 7-3 win over Texas. Manager Dusty Baker asked about the drop, and the pitcher said he's okay. The manager speculated that he could be out of sync, which can affect velocity. Taylor has worked 3.1 scoreless innings over four outings since returning from the All-Star break.

Hernandez didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Tigers, surrendering five runs (four earned) on two hits and four walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out two.

It was a brutal performance by the veteran, who tossed only 27 of 53 pitches for strikes before getting the hook with the Royals in a 5-0 hole. Fortunately for Hernandez, the team rallied and he avoided the loss. He now has a 5.72 ERA and 1.66 WHIP through 28.1 innings with an untenable 15.9 percent walk rate, and he could get bumped from the rotation as soon as the Kansas City staff gets a little healthier.
