Romano's contract was selected by the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Romano has a poor 6.10 ERA in 31 innings for Triple-A Buffalo this season, though his 31.4 percent strikeout rate does suggest some promise. The placement of Ken Giles (elbow) on the 10-day injured list opened a spot on the 25-man roster, and Clay Buchholz's (shoulder) shift to the 60-day injured list carved out a slot on the 40-man.

Giles is not listed on the lineup card prior to Wednesday's game against the Orioles, indicating that he's likely been placed on the 10-day injured list with an undisclosed injury, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

It's not clear exactly what Giles is dealing with. He had a sore wrist late in May, though he seemed to be over the issue. Joe Biagini and/or Tim Mayza could get save chances while Giles is unavailable. Jordan Romano has been called up in a corresponding move.

Law will start Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Law has zero career starts at the big-league level and hasn't pitched more than two innings in a game this season, so he isn't likely to go deep in Wednesday's contest. It's not clear if something happened to scheduled starter Edwin Jackson or if the veteran right-hander will be available out of the bullpen.

Romano will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Buffalo, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Romano is slated to join the Blue Jays in Baltimore, though it's unclear when he'll be officially added to the roster. The right-hander, who was selected in the Rule 5 draft in December before being returned to Toronto, has been lights out over his last nine relief appearances, compiling a 0.73 ERA and 18:3 K:BB in 12.1 innings for Buffalo.

Johnson (elbow) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Johnson has been on the shelf since April 6 with elbow inflammation. With his 30-day rehab window ending Thursday, the southpaw will rejoin the Red Sox prior to Friday's series opener in Baltimore. It remains to be seen whether Johnson will return as a starter or reliever, though it's worth noting that Boston needs a fifth starter Sunday. Johnson posted a 6.75 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB in 14.2 innings across six rehab appearances, though he allowed just two runs and struck out seven batters in seven innings his last two times out.

Pagan (1-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits over two innings in a loss to the Athletics on Tuesday. He struck out two and was also charged with his second blown save of the season.

Pagan fell apart in the sixth inning, when he surrendered back-to-back home runs to Matt Olson and Khris Davis. The normally reliable reliever had only allowed three earned runs all season prior to Tuesday, and the pair of round trippers were the first he'd yielded in 2019. The hiccup boosted Pagan's ERA from 0.82 to a still impressive 1.50.

The Red Sox recalled Lakins from Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Boston will bring in Lakins to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen after Bobby Poyner tossed 59 pitches in long relief in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers before being demoted to Triple-A. Lakins previously made four underwhelming appearances with Boston earlier in the season and hasn't been dramatically better at Pawtucket, posting a 3.32 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB in 19 frames.

Leclerc allowed a run on two hits while striking out two over an inning in Tuesday's 9-5 win over Boston.

Leclerc entered the game in the seventh inning with the Rangers ahead by six runs, a low-leverage spot in contrast to his recent usage. He's now permitted runs in three straight appearances while putting five men on base (four hits, one HBP). The silver lining is that he's throwing strikes (67 percent) and hasn't walked a batter, but whether he'll reclaim the closer role remains to be seen.

McHugh reported no pain in his right elbow following a bullpen session Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The report describes the bullpen session as intense, although McHugh's command was shaky. He's nearing a rehab assignment, but the details about when and where are unclear. Additionally, whether McHugh eventually returns to Houston's rotation or is deployed in the bullpen remains to seen.

Junis didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Tigers, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out five.

The right-hander served up a pair of solo homers -- the fifth time in his last 10 starts he's been taken deep more than once -- but Junis otherwise kept Detroit's bats in check en route to his fifth quality start of the season. He'll carry a 5.35 ERA and 71:28 K:BB through 79 innings into his next outing Sunday in Minnesota.
