Ryan Weber RP | NYY
Red Sox's Ryan Weber: Could start Thursday
Weber could make a spot start Thursday in Toronto, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Nathan Eovalid (elbow) is at least a couple weeks away from returning to the rotation, so Boston will be forced to use less-than-stellar options in that rotation spot in the short term. The other option is Hector Velazquez, who has a 6.41 ERA in 19.2 innings as a starter this season. Weber had a 5.04 ERA and 18:5 K:BB in 25 innings as a starter at Triple-A this season, so he isn't an ideal option either.

Collin McHugh RP | ATL
Astros' Collin McHugh: No structural damage
An MRI on McHugh's elbow did not reveal any structural damage, and the hope is that some rest will allow the soreness/inflammation to subside, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.
He is not out of the woods by any means, but it sounds like McHugh's elbow injury is on the mild side, and may not require surgery. It is possible that he was pitching through this issue over the past month, when he really began to implode after a great first four starts of the season. There is no timetable for his return, but he was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Anthony Banda RP | MIN
Rays' Anthony Banda: Throws to hitters
Banda (elbow) threw a live batting-practice session Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
This is another step in the lefty's return from Tommy John surgery. He should be sent out to a minor-league affiliate sometime in the coming weeks.
-
Ryan Garton RP | SEA
Mariners' Ryan Garton: Designated for assigment
Garton was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday.
The Mariners signed Anthony Bass to a big-league deal, so Garton was booted off the 40-man roster to clear a spot. He gave up four runs in three innings out of the big-league bullpen and should serve as organizational depth, assuming he passes through waivers.
-
Anthony Bass RP | TOR
Mariners' Anthony Bass: Signs with Mariners
Bass signed a big-league contract with the Mariners and will be available for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
He was released from his minor-league deal with the Reds after exercising his opt-out clause, and the Mariners were there to swoop in and bring him on via a big-league deal. The 31-year-old journeyman logged an International League-high nine saves while posting a 2.21 ERA and 19:6 K:BB in 20.1 innings before the Reds let him go. Bass should pitch in mid-to-low-leverage innings for Seattle going forward.

Jimmy Cordero RP | NYY
Blue Jays' Jimmy Cordero: Up with big club
Cordero was called up from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Ryan Tepera (elbow) landed on the injured list, so Cordero was summoned to take his spot in the bullpen. Cordero, who was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays last week, gave up 10 earned runs while striking out 19 in 16 innings out of the bullpen at Triple-A this season.
-
A.J. Puk RP | ARI
Athletics' A.J. Puk: Set for another sim game
Puk (elbow) will throw another simulated game Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
This will be at least his second simulated game in extended spring training, as he continues to inch toward an assignment to a minor-league affiliate. Puk would likely need at least a month's worth of minor-league action before a big-league debut would be realistic, so we're probably looking at a second-half callup as the best-case scenario.

Collin McHugh RP | ATL
Astros' Collin McHugh: Lands on IL with elbow discomfort
McHugh was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with right elbow discomfort, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.
He lost fantasy relevance in many formats after a four-game stretch from April 21 to May 7 when he gave up 24 earned runs in 18 innings that relegated him to the bullpen. It is unclear how long this elbow injury has been bothering him, but it may have been the reason for those unforeseen struggles after he got off to a good start through four turns in the rotation. Brady Rodgers was promoted to take McHugh's spot in the bullpen. Consider McHugh out indefinitely.
-
Brett Martin RP | TEX
Rangers' Brett Martin: Sent back to Triple-A
Martin was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.
Martin logged a 7.20 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and nine strikeouts in 15 innings with the big-league club. This move opens up a spot for Shawn Kelley (neck), who was activated from the injured list.
-
Brian Johnson RP | BOS
Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Making second rehab appearance
Johnson (elbow) will make his second rehab start Tuesday at Double-A Portland, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Johnson began his rehab assignment six days earlier with Triple-A Pawtucket, tossing 1.2 innings and giving up two runs on three hits and a walk. He'll likely work no more than three frames Tuesday while preparing to rejoin the Red Sox in a multi-inning relief role once activated from the 10-day injured list.
