  • Tim Mayza RP | PHI

Blue Jays' Tim Mayza: Recalled from Triple-A Buffalo

Mayza was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

With John Axford being placed on the bereavement list, Mayza was recalled to add depth to Toronto's bullpen. Mayza appeared in 19 games (17 innings) for the Blue Jays last season, over which he posted a 6.88 ERA and 1.65 WHIP.

  • John Axford RP | MIL

Blue Jays' John Axford: Put on bereavement list

Axford was placed on the bereavement list Monday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

After being placed on the bereavement list, Axford will be eligible to return Wednesday. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays recalled Tim Mayza from Triple-A Buffalo.

  • Angels' Eduardo Paredes: Heads back to big leagues

Paredes was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The 23-year-old has been stellar with the Bees this season, allowing just one run in 6.1 frames while producing a 5:1 K:BB. Paredes will head to the majors to provide bullpen depth after Blake Wood (elbow) was placed on the disabled list. He'll likely work in middle relief during his time in the majors.

  • Chris Lee RP | BAL

Orioles' Chris Lee: Nearing rehab assignment

Lee (oblique) threw 3.2 innings at extended spring training Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

The pitching prospect seems to be progressing well in his rehab program. The expectation is that Lee will throw five innings Saturday before embarking on a rehab assignment with a minor-league affiliate, so it seems like he's still at least a couple weeks away from a full return to action.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Twins' Trevor May: Game action slated for later in week

May (elbow) threw his final live batting practice session Monday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

May underwent Tommy John surgery in March of 2017, and it seems like he's cleared another hurdle in the lengthy recovery process. He's expected to pitch in two or three extended spring training games next, which will start later this week. He still seems to be on track for a return in late May or early June.

  • White Sox's Danny Farquhar: Brain surgery successful

Farquhar (head) had successful surgery to address a brain aneurysm and is progressing well Monday.

Farquhar collapsed in the dugout Friday with a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm. He is in critical but stable condition in an ICU unit, able to use his extremities and respond to questions and commands. He is set to be closely monitored at the hospital for at least the next three weeks.

  • White Sox's Danny Farquhar: Transferred to 60-day DL

Farquhar (head) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Monday.

Farquhar remains hospitalized after suffering a brain hemorrhage Friday. He underwent complicated surgery Saturday and will be closely monitored for at least the next three weeks. He was removed from the 40-man roster in order to make room for Chris Beck.

  • Chris Beck RP | STL

White Sox's Chris Beck: Contract purchased Monday

Beck had his contract purchased from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

With Miguel Gonzalez (shoulder) landing on the disabled list Monday, Beck was promoted to the big club to provide an additional arm capable of pitching multiple innings out of the bullpen. The 27-year-old owns a solid 2.00 ERA and 13:3 K:BB across four appearances -- including a pair of starts -- with Charlotte this season, so he could be an option to make a spot start while Gonzalez is sidelined. That said, his 6.40 ERA across 90 major-league innings over the previous two seasons should keep expectations in check if he does get a turn in the rotation. Danny Farquhar (head) was shifted to the 60-day disabled list in a corresponding move to clear a spot on the team's 40-man roster for Beck.

  • Carson Fulmer RP | PIT

White Sox's Carson Fulmer: Start bumped up to Monday

Fulmer will start Monday against the Mariners.

Fulmer had previously been scheduled to throw Tuesday, but with Miguel Gonzalez heading to the disabled list with rotator cuff inflammation, he'll be called on a day early. It won't be a short-rest start for Fulmer, as his last start came Wednesday, though he did toss an inning of relief Friday as well. Still, he shouldn't be too taxed, as his last start lasted only one inning, so he's only thrown two innings in the past five days. Given the way he's pitched so far this season, with a 7.50 ERA through 12 innings, he's more likely to leave early due to poor performance than fatigue.

  • Jalen Beeks RP | TEX

Red Sox's Jalen Beeks: Wins weekly award

Beeks was named the International League Pitcher of the Week on Monday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Beeks threw six shutout innings with 10 strikeouts for Triple-A Pawtucket in order to win the award. On the season, Beeks has tossed 14 innings with an 0.64 ERA and a 43.3 percent strikeout rate. It's a big jump after posting a solid but unspectacular 24.1 percent strikeout rate in 95.2 innings at the same level last season. He projects as a back-end starter but his early performances suggest that he could be unlocking a new level of performances.
