  • Carson Fulmer RP | PIT

White Sox's Carson Fulmer: Only lasts one inning Wednesday

Fulmer (0-1) went just one inning Wednesday, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks in a loss against the Athletics. He did not record a strikeout or factor into the decision.

Fulmer was staked to a 6-1 lead heading into his second inning, but he allowed a leadoff home run and couldn't record an out after that before getting the hook. The righty had all sorts of trouble finding the zone, throwing more balls (25) than strikes (21) and falling behind on the first pitch to seven of the 10 batters he faced. He's now walked nine in 10.2 innings and each start has gotten progressively shorter and worse from an earned-run perspective, so it's tough to put much trust in Fulmer right now. He'll try to right the ship his next time out Tuesday against Seattle.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Notches fourth save in shaky fashion Wednesday

Colome gave up a run on one hit and two walks while striking out one in the ninth inning Wednesday to pick up his fourth save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Rangers.

The right-hander has now been scored upon in five of his eight appearances to begin 2018, and while Colome does have four saves, he's also blown two already. His 9.00 ERA and 6:6 K:BB in seven innings will need to improve dramatically if he's going to hang onto his spot as the Rays' closer -- or rehabilitate his trade value before getting bundled off to a contender.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Sees work in non-save scenario

Colome fired a scoreless ninth inning in a 7-2 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.

The closer got some work in a non-save scenario Tuesday, with manager Kevin Cash opting to roll him out for the first time since last Friday. The low-leverage scenario appeared to be beneficial for Colome after he'd allowed an earned run apiece in each of his previous two outings. It's been a rocky road thus far for the 29-year-old in 2018, as he's already been charged with two losses in addition to blowing a pair of saves.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Throws three scoreless Tuesday

Johnson allowed one hit and two walks while striking out three over three scoreless relief innings in Tuesday's 10-1 win over the Angels.

Johnson piggybacked on a start by David Price, who left after 78 pitches and five innings with a 9-1 lead. Manager Alex Cora didn't want to push Price, who left his previous start early after experiencing a sensation in his left hand. Johnson, who had been scheduled to start Monday before the game was postponed, will continue to throw out of the bullpen, sometimes as a multi-inning reliever.

  • White Sox's Hector Santiago: Needed for multiple relief innings

Santiago allowed one hit and one walk over two scoreless relief innings Tuesday in a 10-2 loss to the Athletics.

Santiago was needed early to stanch the bleeding of yet another poor start by Miguel Gonzalez (eight runs, three innings). Filling in for a failed starter has essentially been his role thus far, having pitched at least two innings in four relief appearances. Santiago made a run at the No. 5 starter job during spring training before losing out to rookie Carson Fulmer, but it looks like there's another spot in the rotation he could take. Gonzalez is 0-3 with a 12.41 ERA following Tuesday's loss. It's too early for the White Sox to promote Michael Kopech, so Santiago, an in-house option with major-league experience as a starter, appears to be a logical choice should manager Rick Renteria make a change in the rotation.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Bypassed for save Tuesday

Giles was not used in a save situation Tuesday in Houston's 4-1 win over Seattle.

This seemed like a good spot for Giles. He was well rested, most recently having pitched Saturday, but manager A.J. Hinch went to Chris Devenski for a second straight save opportunity. This is obviously not a good sign for those who own Giles, who must wonder what his role is in the Astros' bullpen.

  • Chris Devenski RP | NYM

Astros' Chris Devenski: Leads team in saves

Devenski closed out Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Mariners, working around a hit and a walk to record his second save of the season.

Manager A.J. Hinch has been somewhat unpredictable in his deployment of relievers late in games, but this was the clearest sign yet that he doesn't view Ken Giles as the team's de facto closer. Giles was well rested, having last pitched three days ago, but was not used to button up Tuesday's win. Three Houston relievers have saves with Devenski the team leader.

  • Joe Jimenez RP | ATL

Tigers' Joe Jimenez: Keeps scoreless streak going

Jimenez grabbed his second hold of the season in Tuesday's win over the Orioles, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. He hasn't allowed a run through his first 7.2 innings of work this year.

So far, Jimenez looks like a different pitcher than the one who posted a 12.32 ERA and 2.11 WHIP in 19 innings last season. The 23-year-old had a good spring training and he's carrying that over to the regular season. Shane Greene has performed reasonably well as Detroit's closer, but Jimenez is a candidate to close in the future for the Tigers, and they could turn to him at some point during an expected rebuilding season.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Rangers' Matt Moore: Shines in win Tuesday

Moore (1-3) got his first win of the season Tuesday, allowing one run (unearned) on five hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out six.

Moore failed to make it past the fifth inning in any of his opening three starts, but he was much better in this one, pounding the strike zone and inducing 13 swinging strikes. Despite the solid outing, the lefty still owns a 5.59 ERA -- just about in line with last year's 5.52 mark -- so he won't be on most fantasy radars unless he strings together more performances like this one. Moore will try to keep it going Monday in a home date with the Athletics.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Athletics' Lou Trivino: Recalled from Triple-A

Trivino was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

With Yusmeiro Petit landing on the family medical emergency list, Trivino will join the A's to offer an extra arm out of the bullpen for the time being. The 26-year-old has racked up eight strikeouts and hasn't allowed a baserunner through 4.1 scoreless innings with the Sounds so far this season. Trivino has also converted all five of his save chances at Triple-A dating back to last season, so he could be a name to keep an eye on if he's able to pitch well enough to stick with the big club.
