  • Jeff Ferrell RP | DET

Tigers' Jeff Ferrell: Bound for Detroit

The Tigers will purchase Ferrell's contract from Triple-A Toledo prior to Sunday's game against the Twins, John Wagner of The Toledo Blade reports.

Detroit hasn't announced who will be sent out of the bullpen to make room for Ferrell, who had submitted a 2.51 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 51 strikeouts over 46.2 innings with Toledo on the season. The 26-year-old will likely be slated for duties in the middle innings early on before potentially working his way into the Tigers' setup ranks.

  • Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL

White Sox's Reynaldo Lopez: Workload to be monitored

Lopez will have his pitch counts monitored as he wraps up the 2017 season at the major-league level, Brian Sandalow of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The 23-year-old right-hander tossed 102 pitches over six innings in his initial start for the White Sox on Friday.

Lopez has wipeout stuff that can lead to a lot of strikeouts, which in turn leads to higher pitch counts. It's on him to become more efficient, figuring out ways to get contact earlier in at-bats, but manager Rick Renteria doesn't want to take away from what Lopez does naturally. As Lopez gains more experience, Renteria hopes he can find a balance and pitch deep into games while maintaining his swing-and-miss stuff.

  • Matt Belisle RP | CLE

Twins' Matt Belisle: Blows save Saturday

Belisle gave up a walkoff two-run homer to blow his third save of the season -- and first since he took over closing duties -- in Saturday's loss to Detroit.

Belisle had converted his first two save chances since taking over the closer role after Brandon Kintzler was traded. Belisle has been throwing well lately, as he had not allowed an earned run in his last 17.1 innings before Saturday. He'll likely retain the closer role in the near term as a result.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Records one out in horrible start

Manaea gave up six runs on six hits and one walk while recording just one out in Saturday's start against the Orioles.

This was one of the worst fantasy starts of the year by any pitcher, as Manaea got just one out and failed to record a strikeout. Manaea had a 3.68 ERA on July 16, but has since given up 20 runs over 19 innings, and at this point it's difficult to feel comfortable deploying him until he rights the ship. He lines up to pitch in Houston next weekend.

  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

Blue Jays' Dominic Leone: Earns hold after striking out three

Leone notched his sixth hold of the season Saturday after allowing just one hit and striking out three Pirates over 1.2 innings.

The right-hander sits just one hold shy of his career high set in 2014 as a Mariner. Leone's 2.55 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 55 strikeouts over 52.1 innings this year have been a highlight for the Jays' troubled bullpen. He's thrived since moving into a high-leverage role in August, and Leone is worth adding in league's that value holds.

  • Royals' Scott Alexander: Picks up win after blowing save

Alexander (3-3) was charged with his second blown save Saturday, but picked up the win after Melky Cabrera's two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning led the Royals to a 5-4 victory over the White Sox.

The 27-year-old owns an impressive 2.63 ERA through a career-high 34 games this season, but Alexander's performance has fallen off in recent weeks. In his last seven outings, the left-hander has surrendered five runs on 18 hits and two walks while blowing two saves.

  • Jeanmar Gomez RP | CHW

Mariners' Jeanmar Gomez: Inks minor-league deal with Mariners

Gomez signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners and was added to Triple-A Tacoma's roster, Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto reports.

He had a 2.16 ERA in 8.1 innings at Triple-A in the Brewers' organization, but recently elected to become a free agent and joined up with Seattle. Gomez worked as the Phillies' closer last year, but that was a unique set of circumstances. It's possible he could regain a big-league bullpen spot, but it would likely be in a low-leverage capacity.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Earns 12th win

Pomeranz (12-4) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over 6.2 innings en route to a win over the Yankees on Saturday.

With that, Pomeranz has now won six straight decisions and nine of 10. He gave up a two-run homer to Gary Sanchez in the first inning and ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth, but he still easily outdueled Luis Severino in this one. Since walking nine batters over two starts near the end of July, Pomeranz has issued a total of four free passes in his last three starts, spanning 19.2 innings. The lefty lines up to face the Yankees again his next time out, this time at home.

  • Chris Rowley RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Chris Rowley: Picks up win in big-league debut

Rowley (1-0) earned the win over the Pirates on Saturday, giving up one run on five hits and one walk while striking out three over 5.1 innings.

He was behind in counts throughout much of the afternoon, but Rowley was able to battle back and beat a hot Pirates team in his major-league debut. Rowley induced 11 swinging strikes on just 75 total pitches. After two years away from the game, Rowley returned to affiliated baseball last season, and he's thrived at the upper levels of the minors this year. It's uncertain if he will make another start in the immediate future, but Rowley's success should put him near the top of the list for fill-in duty down the stretch.

  • Ryan Pressly RP | CHC

Twins' Ryan Pressly: Pitching well since June

Pressly has a 2.28 ERA and 0.76 WHIP with 21 strikeouts across 23.2 innings since the start of June.

Pressly struggled mightily in the first two months of the season with 19 runs allowed over 18 innings, but has put up some impressive numbers since. The 28-year-old has a 2-2 record with eight holds and a solid 44:9 K:BB for the season, but still only sees high-leverage work on an infrequent basis.
