  • Rob Whalen RP | SEA

Mariners' Rob Whalen: Brought up to Seattle

Whalen was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.

As has been the case numerous times this season, Whalen will return to the big leagues to act as a fresh arm in a swingman role. He'll be available for Saturday's game against the Rangers out of the bullpen, so it seems like this trip to the bigs will see him in a long-relief role. To make room for Whalen on the active roster, Zac Curtis was sent down to Double-A Arkansas.

  • Taylor Rogers RP | MIN

Twins' Taylor Rogers: Tied for AL lead in holds

Rogers has 15 strikeouts and five walks with an ERA of 2.82 over 22.1 innings.

It's been a great couple weeks for Rogers. In eight innings since May 24, he's given up seven hits and one run, which came off a solo home run. The four holds over that span brought his season total up to 15, good enough for a first-place tie for the AL lead, and he's also recorded two wins to push his record up to 3-1. The southpaw hasn't received a save opportunity yet this season, but it might only be a matter of time until his name gets called in the ninth inning.

  • Zach Neal RP | ATH

Athletics' Zach Neal: Sent down to Nashville

Neal was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.

Michael Brady was brought up by the A's in a corresponding move. Neal had allowed a whopping 13 earned runs and five home runs in 10.2 innings over his last four outings.

  • Ryan Pressly RP | CHC

Twins' Ryan Pressly: Optioned to Triple-A

Pressly was optioned to Triple-A Rochester.

After a terrible start to the season (9.50 ERA), Pressly made some progress when called up earlier this month by giving up just one run in four innings over two appearances. He'll likely be called up to the majors again soon as the Twins continue to shuffle their bullpen.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Moved to 60-day DL

Andriese (hip) was moved to the 60-day DL from the 10-day DL, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Andriese will be out until August or later with a stress reaction in his hip. His move to the 60-day DL clears a 40-man roster spot for newly acquired Trevor Plouffe.

  • Alan Busenitz RP | CIN

Twins' Alan Busenitz: Will be called up from Triple-A

Busenitz will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester for Saturday's doubleheader against Cleveland, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He has a 2.15 ERA and 32:9 K:BB in 29.1 innings at Rochester.

Busenitz isn't considered a top prospect and was a throw-in on the Hector Santiago trade last summer from the Angels. However, he has an opportunity to stick in the majors as the Twins are desperate for any consistent production in the bullpen.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Examination confirms inflammation

Johnson underwent an examination that confirmed inflammation in his left shoulder, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Manager John Farrell doesn't feel like this is a severe condition and is hoping it's a relatively quick turnaround for Johnson, who is 2-0 with a 4.29 ERA in four starts for Boston this season. His next turn in the rotation Monday will be taken by right-hander Hector Velazquez.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Angels' Jesse Chavez: Takes hard-luck loss against Royals

Chavez (5-7) took the loss despite allowing two runs on nine hits over seven innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

With the exception of not being able to figure out Lorenzo Cain, who homered and drove in another run off of him, Chavez was very good. The problem was that Royals starter Ian Kennedy was better. However, it was a nice rebound start for Chavez after he allowed six runs over 3.2 innings his last time out.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: Fans eight to earn fourth win

Norris (4-4) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out eight batters through six innings during Friday's win over the Rays.

Norris has settled into a groove and allowed just 12 runs over 28.1 innings through his past five starts. He sports a 4.42 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 8.7 K/9 for the campaign, but with his pedigree and recent improvement in mind, Norris' fantasy stock is definitely trending up. The southpaw lines up to face the Mariners at Safeco Field in his next start.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Records 19th save Friday

Kimbrel struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to pick up his 19th save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Astros.

He's been scored upon in only three of his 29 appearances so far this season, and Kimbrel's 0.88 ERA, 0.42 WHIP and 58:5 K:BB in 30.2 innings are as elite as it gets. With Boston climbing in the AL East, the team's 29-year-old closer should continue receiving plenty of save chances going forward.
