  • Buddy Boshers RP | HOU

Twins' Buddy Boshers: Joins big-league club

The Twins recalled Boshers from Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The reliever will serve as depth for the pitching staff in the absence of Hector Santiago, who was placed on the bereavement list. Boshers likely will ride the shuttle back to Rochester after this weekend.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Officially on bereavement list

The Twins placed Santiago (personal) on the bereavement list Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander will miss the weekend series and return for a Tuesday start against the Athletics. Santiago will be replaced on the roster by Buddy Boshers.

  • Danny Coulombe RP | BOS

Athletics' Daniel Coulombe: Second straight scoreless appearance Thursday

Coulombe pitched a scoreless eighth inning in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Angels, giving up one hit.

The 27-year-old southpaw has now put together scoreless appearances in six of his last seven trips to the mound, as he's served as a valued left-handed option out of the bullpen for manager Bob Melvin during the first month of the season. Coulombe doesn't rack up many strikeouts but does a good job of keeping the ball on the ground, and he's also capable of working multiple innings when necessary. Factoring in Thursday's outing, he's sporting a solid 3.24 ERA over his first 8.1 innings.

  • Athletics' Kendall Graveman: Effective in return from DL

Graveman (2-1) made an effective return from his shoulder injury in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Angels, giving up two earned runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out four.

The right-hander didn't miss a beat in his return to the mound, throwing 58 of 84 pitches for strikes and notching first-pitch strikes against 16 of the 22 hitters he faced. Graveman even helped his cause with a nifty unassisted double play, getting Jefry Marte in a rundown between third base and home and then leaping over him to also cut down the sliding Cliff Pennington at third with a tag. It was another encouraging start for Graveman, who's given up no more than two earned runs in any of his four trips to the mound and has gone at least six innings in three of those outings. He'll look to extend the strong start to the season in a road matchup against the Twins next Tuesday.

  • Chris Devenski RP | NYM

Astros' Chris Devenski: Touched for game-winning homer

Devenski (1-1) was tagged with his first loss of the season when he allowed two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out five over 2.1 innings in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Indians.

Devenski was as dominant as ever, but showed he's human after all as he tired toward the end of his 44-pitch outing. He worked around an error to get into a third inning of work, but walked nine-hole hitter Yan Gomes before watching Francisco Lindor take him deep -- 456-feet -- for a two-run home run that ended Devenski's night. Having thrown 51 pitches over the last two days, Devenski is probably unavailable until Sunday.

  • Ashur Tolliver RP | SEA

Astros' Ashur Tolliver: Lands on 7-day DL

Tolliver was placed on the 7-day minor-league disabled list with abdominal soreness, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Tolliver, a left-handed reliever who is on the 40-man roster, is not expected to be out long. In five games for Triple-A Fresno, Tolliver has allowed two runs on three hits and six walks while striking out five in 6.2 innings.

  • John Axford RP | MIL

Athletics' John Axford: Throwing from 90 feet

Axford (shoulder) has stretched out to throwing 90 feet in recent sessions, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The veteran reliever resumed throwing earlier in the week and Slusser is reporting that he could join the team on its upcoming road trip to continue his rehab. Once Axford is able to start throwing off a mound, the A's will be able to formulate a timeline for when he can set out on a rehab assignment.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Throwing session set for Friday

Manager Bob Melvin confirmed that Manaea (shoulder) will throw Friday , Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The promising young lefty had an early exit from his outing Wednesday due to tightness in his throwing shoulder. Fortunately, early reports on Manaea's shoulder have been positive and the tightness has subsided to the point where he can resume throwing just two days after the flare-up. After Manaea's throwing session, the A's figure to have a clearer picture as to when the southpaw will be ready to return to the rotation.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Looking to throw Friday

Manaea (shoulder) hopes to participate in throwing exercises Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

If Manaea is able to throw Friday, it should be much easier to determine when he'll be ready to return to live action. Manaea, who was diagnosed with shoulder tightness, passed initial strength tests, so it would appear that he's not dealing with a more problematic ailment.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Shoulder condition improving

Manaea's shoulder tightness has started to subside since flaring up during Wednesday's outing, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

At this point in time, there are no plans for Manaea to undergo tests to see if he's dealing with a more serious injury. Although he's still being considered day-to-day, the A's have yet to rule out the possibility of Manaea making his next scheduled start, which would be Tuesday against the Twins.
