Matt Andriese RP | MIA
Rays' Matt Andriese: Moves to 3-0 despite shaky start against Detroit
Andriese allowed four runs on five hits, walking two and striking out three while lasting just 5.1 innings in a 7-5 win over Detroit on Friday night.
Andriese (3-0) won his third straight decision, but after two exceptionally strong performances, this one wasn't exactly a masterpiece. He needed 92 pitches (59 for strikes) to record 16 outs, and he was frequently in trouble. Andriese profiles as a swingman, so he can fill multiple roles, including taking a regular turn in the rotation as needed. The Tigers are a tough challenge so this one can probably be at least partially excused, but he'll need to get back on track next time out against Miami.

Justin Wilson RP | BOS
Tigers' Justin Wilson: Throws second-straight scoreless inning
Wilson did not allow a baserunner in a scoreless inning of work against Minnesota on Tuesday. He struck out two in the outing.
Wilson has been hit hard in the month of May as he's compiled a 10.50 ERA over 6.0 innings but he's now put together two perfect outings. Thanks to 12 scoreless appearances he manufactured to start the season, the 28-year-old still has a healthy ERA and WHIP to go along with his team-leading 10 holds.

Drew VerHagen RP | STL
Tigers' Drew VerHagen: Gives up three earned runs
VerHagen was roughed up Saturday, giving up three earned runs over 1.0 innings against Baltimore.
VerHagen has had a rough go at it so far in 2016 as he's now given up three or more earned runs three times this year. 12 of the 25-year-old's 17 appearances have been scoreless, however, so there are some positives to be said for for the righty's season.

Carson Smith RP | BOS
Red Sox's Carson Smith: Probably won't need surgery
Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday he would be surprised if Smith (forearm) needs surgery, the Boston Globe's Alex Speier reports.
He had an MRI Friday after landing on the 15-day DL, but the results have not yet been announced. Farrell said the symptoms do not indicate surgery will be necessary, but of course that could change in a hurry. Regardless, he should be considered out indefinitely.

Carson Smith RP | BOS
Red Sox's Carson Smith: Placed on disabled list
The Red Sox placed Smith (forearm) on the disabled list Friday, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.
It was reported earlier this week that Smith was dealing with forearm soreness, and his placement on the disabled list signals that he did not make much progress over the last few days. The extent of his setback has not yet been determined, but he will be eligible to be activated May 30. Noe Ramirez was recalled to take Smith's place on the roster.

Aroldis Chapman RP | BOS
Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Strikes out two in fifth save
Chapman allowed a hit and struck out two en route to his fifth save of the season Thursday against the A's.
It was Chapman's second save in as many nights. Considering it is early in Chapman's season (he returned from suspension on May 9), manager Joe Girardi may give the big righty Friday off considering he's thrown 27 pitches over the past two days.

Kendall Graveman RP | ARI
Athletics' Kendall Graveman: Falls victim to Yanks' adjustment Thursday
Graveman (1-6) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs, eight hits and three walks while striking out five in Thursday's loss against the Yankees.
Last time Graveman took the bump against the Yankee, he struck out a career-high eight en route to his only win of 2016. Thursday was a bit different as New York came with a more patient approach, allowing Graveman to record only eight swinging strikes. Although this wasn't a horrible showing, the righty remains inefficient and has fairly terrible numbers in nearly every statistical category.

Collin McHugh RP | ATL
Astros' Collin McHugh: Takes tough-luck loss despite best outing of season
McHugh (4-4) was a tough-luck loser Thursday, as he held the White Sox to just two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight in seven innings.
Unfortunately, he had the poor fortune to be on the wrong side of White Sox ace Chris Sale's second straight complete game. This season has mostly been a total disaster for McHugh, but this was his best outing yet -- not just his best strikeout total, but also the best job he's done limiting baserunners while keeping the ball in the park. Even though he's still allowed four-plus runs five times in nine starts, which is a long way from cutting the mustard, this outing at least offers some optimism that things will be brighter moving forward.

Brad Boxberger RP | CHC
Rays' Brad Boxberger: Fires scoreless inning in High-A rehab appearance Wednesday
Boxberger surrendered a hit and a walk over an inning in High-A Charlotte's 4-3 loss to Daytona on Wednesday. He also notched a strikeout.
The rehabbing reliever threw 21 pitches overall to five hitters, with 11 of those offerings hitting the strike zone. It was Boxberger's third appearance with the Stone Crabs, and he's likely to pitch again at some point over the weekend, absent any setbacks from Wednesday's outing.

Aroldis Chapman RP | BOS
Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Giving Yanks what they paid for
Chapman picked up his fourth save while not allowing a hit for the fourth consecutive appearance. He struck out one.
After a rusty return on May 9 against the Royals (one run on two hits), Chapman has been what the Yankees expected when they signed him in the off season. He owns a 6:1 K:BB and is 4-for-4 in save chances through his first five appearances.
