Yankees legend Mo Rivera has a hand in Dellin Betances' torrid start
With another scoreless outing Tuesday against the Mariners, Yankees reliever Dellin Betances has opened the season with 26 straight scoreless appearances, which is a team record.
Betances has been locked in as of late, as he has struck out 14 of the last 20 batters he faced. He now has 49 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.
Betances had some struggles in spring training and at the beginning of the season, when he walked six batters in his first three appearances. However, with a little help from Yankees legend Mariano Rivera, Betances has ironed out his issues.
"Towards the beginning of the season when I was struggling early on, Mo told me a couple of pointers that really helped," Betances told the New York Post. "He told me he felt like my front shoulder was flying open and he offered some tips. I dropped the shoulder a little bit to stay within a straight line and have a good direction towards home, and I think that has helped me be more successful and more consistent."
