  • Jason Foley RP | SF

Tigers' Jason Foley: Earns 24th save

Foley earned the save against the Royals on Monday, striking out one over a perfect ninth inning.

Foley was called upon to protect a 7-6 lead in the ninth frame and did so on 13 pitches. The 28-year-old has converted nine straight saves, including five in nine September appearances. On the season, he is 24-for-27 in save opportunities with a 3.02 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 43:19 K:BB across 56.2 innings.

  • Jorge Alcala RP | TOR

Twins' Jorge Alcala: Moved to minors

Alcala was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The Twins have elected to demote Alcala in order to make room for Cole Irvin, who was claimed off waivers earlier in the day. Alcala's recent performance likely led to the demotion, as he's allowed three runs in his last three appearances out of the bullpen.

  • Royals' James McArthur: Diagnosed with elbow tightness

McArthur exited Monday's game against Detroit due to right elbow tightness.

McArthur initially appeared to suffer an injury to his right hand on a play at first base, but the team has since revealed that he was forced from the game due to an elbow issue. He'll be considered day-to-day until more information on the issue comes to light.

  • Royals' James McArthur: Exits with trainer

McArthur left Monday's game against the Tigers with a right hand injury, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

McArthur appeared to suffer the injury while covering first base, and he would later leave the game with the team trainer after facing one more batter. The severity of his injury is unknown at this time.

  • Angels' Kenny Rosenberg: Called up Monday

The Angels recalled Rosenberg from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

Rosenberg will return to the major-league roster after being sent down to Salt Lake on Aug. 14. He posted a 3.73 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 31 strikeouts over 31.1 innings in five starts since being optioned, but the southpaw could work out of the bullpen while he's back up with the Angels. The Angels optioned starter Caden Dana to Double-A Rocket City on Monday, but the club could roll with a five-man rotation over the final two weeks rather than having Rosenberg replace Dana as a sixth starter.

  • Ricky Vanasco RP | DET

Tigers' Ricky Vanasco: Moves to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Vanasco to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

A spot on the active roster needed to be cleared for Reese Olson (shoulder), who was activated from the 15-day injured list to start Monday's game versus the Royals. Vanasco had made two scoreless appearances out of the bullpen since joining the Tigers earlier this month.

  • Randy Dobnak RP | DET

Twins' Randy Dobnak: Exits 40-man roster

The Twins designated Dobnak for assignment Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Cole Irvin, who has been claimed off waivers. Dobnak made it back to the majors briefly in 2024 for the first time since 2021, allowing five runs over 7.2 frames covering four relief appearances. Given his $2.25 million salary, Dobnak is a good bet to pass through waivers unclaimed.

  • Hunter Harvey RP | CHC

Royals' Hunter Harvey: Resumes playing catch

Harvey (back) resumed playing catch last week but remains without a clear timeline for returning from the 15-day injured list, MLB.com reports.

After landing on the IL on Aug. 10 with mid-back tightness, Harvey was cleared to resume throwing off a mound three weeks later, but he was shut down from throwing for a week after he didn't respond as well as hoped to the bullpen session. The Royals haven't indicated that Harvey has experienced any setbacks since he started playing catch, but it's unclear if he'll be ready to get back on the mound in the coming days. Before being deactivated, Harvey had accrued a 4.44 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 55:16 K:BB across 50.2 innings while notching two wins, one save and 28 holds in 49 relief appearances between the Royals and Nationals on the season.

  • Will Smith RP | KC

Royals' Will Smith: Throwing, but timeline uncertain

Smith recently resumed throwing bullpen sessions, but he's still experiencing back tightness and is without a clear timeline for a return from the 15-day injured list, MLB.com reports.

Smith had been contending with back issues for several weeks before the Royals placed him on the IL on Aug. 26. Though it's encouraging that Smith hasn't been shut down from throwing, he'll likely need the soreness in his back to subside a bit more before the Royals are comfortable bringing him back. It's unclear if Smith has a legitimate chance at being activated before the regular season ends Sept. 29.

  • Josh Taylor RP | KC

Royals' Josh Taylor: Shifts rehab to Triple-A

Taylor (bicep) moved his rehab assignment to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday and made a one-inning appearance against Toledo, allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk.

Taylor moved his rehab to Triple-A after he gave up one unearned run across three innings over his three appearances at Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The lefty reliever has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a left bicep nerve injury, but he looks poised to make his 2024 debut for the Royals at some point over the final two weeks of the campaign.
