  • Zack Kelly RP | BOS

Red Sox's Zack Kelly: Coughs up lead

Kelly allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit while striking out three over two innings in Monday's 9-8 extra-innings loss to Colorado.

Kelly breezed through the ninth inning of a tie game but gave up a game-tying home run in the bottom of the 10th. It was the fourth lead Boston's bullpen has blown during its road trip to begin the second half -- the 'pen went on to blow a fifth lead in 12th inning when the Rockies walked it off. Kelly has pitched well, but he's been forced into higher-leverage spots with two late-game options injured and closer Kenley Jansen not making the trip due to a pre-existing heart condition that gets exacerbated by high altitude.

  • Andres Munoz RP | SEA

Mariners' Andres Munoz: Blows save Monday

Munoz did not permit a baserunner but allowed an inherited runner to score over two-thirds of an inning Monday, getting charged with a blown save in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Angels.

Ryne Stanek walked two of the three batters he faced in the eighth inning before getting the hook, and Munoz then gave up a sacrifice fly to Taylor Ward, which tied the game at 1-1. It was Munoz's third blown save of the year, though his scoreless streak remains intact at eight innings. The closer has a 1.35 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 49:18 K:BB over 40 innings while adding 16 saves and six holds.

  • Angels' Carlos Estevez: Sharp in 19th save

Estevez struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Monday's 3-1 win over the Mariners.

Estevez dispatched the middle of the Mariners' lineup on nine pitches, all of which were strikes. This was the right-hander's 17th scoreless outing in a row, a span in which he's allowed just three hits while posting a 15:2 K:BB and 12 of his 19 saves on the year. While the Angels haven't been particularly good, he's produced elite numbers as their closer this season. Estevez has added a 2.45 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 32:5 K:BB through 33 innings.

  • Cole Sands RP | MIN

Twins' Cole Sands: Snags third save

Sands picked up the save in Monday's 7-2 victory over the Phillies, pitching two clean innings with two strikeouts.

The 27-year-old reliever entered the game in the eighth inning with a 4-2 lead and was allowed to finish off the game for his fourth career save after the Twins scored three runs in the bottom of the frame. Sands has been a solid bullpen option this year, pitching to a 3.38 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 53:7 K:BB across 45.1 innings. However this save was an anomaly, as Jhoan Duran remains firmly cemented as the closer for the Twins, with Griffin Jax a more than capable understudy.

  • John Brebbia RP | COL

White Sox's John Brebbia: Blows save versus Rangers

Brebbia blew the save in Monday's 4-3 loss at Texas. He allowed one run on two hits and one walk with one strikeout in one inning.

After Michael Kopech took over in the seventh inning and worked 1.2 frames, Brebbia was called upon to close out a one-run lead in the ninth. After inducing a Josh Smith flyout, the 34-year-old yielded a double to Wyatt Langford before Jonah Heim singled home Langford to tie the game and force extras. Brebbia has hit a rough patch lately, as he's yielded runs in three consecutive outings, allowing five earned across 2.2 innings. However, if Kopech is dealt at the July 30 trade deadline and Brebbia stays in Chicago, he could see more save chances down the stretch.

  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

White Sox's Dominic Leone: Gets green light for rehab stint

Leone (elbow) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte within the next day or two, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol confirmed Monday that the right-hander would report to Triple-A for his first action since being placed on the injured list May 24 with right elbow inflammation. Leone will need at least a few innings of work in the minors before being activated.

  • Matt Foster RP | CHW

White Sox's Matt Foster: Resuming rehab assignment

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Monday that Foster (elbow/back) is expected to resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte in the next day or two, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Foster has missed the entirety of the 2024 season so far while recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent April 19, 2023. He suffered a strained back earlier in July while on his rehab assignment with Charlotte, prompting a shutdown. Once healthy, Foster will likely be used in low-leverage spots out of the White Sox bullpen.

  • Jimmy Lambert RP | CHW

White Sox's Jimmy Lambert: Another rehab outing coming Tuesday

Lambert (shoulder) will make his next rehab appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Lambert began his rehab assignment Friday, when he struck out two while allowing one hit and no walks over a scoreless innings. He'll likely need at least a few more appearances in the ACL before moving his rehab assignment to a higher-level affiliate. Lambert has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a right rotator cuff strain.

  • Jose Quijada RP | LAA

Angels' Jose Quijada: Activated for season debut

The Angels activated Quijada (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Monday.

Quijada has completed the long road back from May 2023 Tommy John surgery. The left-hander allowed two runs with a 13:4 K:BB over 7.2 innings covering nine rehab appearances. The Angels are likely to deploy him in middle relief.

  • Mariners' Gregory Santos: Solid since season debut

Santos has allowed one earned run on two hits and a walk over 3.1 innings while recording two strikeouts in his three appearances since being activated from the 60-day injured list July 8.

Santos has a delayed start to the season due to a lat strain, but the right-hander earned his first hold Sunday. He figures to primarily slot in behind closer Andres Munoz and top set-up man Ryne Stanek for now, although he has high-leverage experience after serving a stint as closer for the White Sox last season.
