  • Marlins' Eli Villalobos: Dropped from 40-man roster

Villalobos was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

After being claimed off waivers by Miami on June 26, Villalobos was once again designated for assignment. He'll head back to waivers, where another team will be able to claim him. If he goes unclaimed, the 28-year-old will remain with Double-A Pensacola. In a corresponding move, Dane Myers was added to the Marlins' major-league roster, replacing Jazz Chisholm (oblique), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday.

  • Brett Kennedy RP | CIN

Reds' Brett Kennedy: Expected to make start Tuesday

Kennedy has been added to the Reds' taxi squad and is expected to be formally called up from Triple-A Louisville to start Tuesday versus the Nationals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Kennedy began this year in independent ball before latching on with the Reds on a minor-league deal and posting a 3.71 ERA and 37:12 K:BB over 43.2 frames covering eight starts at Triple-A. The 28-year-old last appeared in the majors back in 2018.

  • Mets' Elieser Hernandez: Activated and optioned

Hernandez (shoulder/side) was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Hernandez is back to full health again after he had spent the entire season on the IL, first while recovering from a shoulder injury before he had his rehab program slowed by side discomfort in June. The Mets don't have an opening for Hernandez in the big-league bullpen at the moment, so while he'll reclaim his spot on the 40-man roster now that he's been activated, he'll head to Triple-A to continue building his case for a promotion. During his rehab assignment, Hernandez posted a 2.45 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB over 7.1 innings across six appearances between High-A Brooklyn and Single-A St. Lucie.

  • Mets' Zach Muckenhirn: Designated for assignment

Muckenhirn was designated for assignment Monday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Muckenhirn has allowed four runs in six relief innings with the Mets this season. He's spent most of the year at Triple-A Syracuse, where he's posted a 0.88 ERA but with just 19 strikeouts in 30.2 frames.

  • Tristan Beck RP | SF

Giants' Tristan Beck: Returns from thumb injury

Beck has pitched twice since recovering from a cut on his thumb, covering 4.1 scoreless innings while allowing four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Beck left his June 25 appearance versus the Diamondbacks with a cut on his thumb, but it was always expected to be a minor issue. He's been an effective long-relief option for the Giants this season, pitching to a 3.20 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB through 45 innings across 18 appearances. Beck could continue to work in bullpen games and whenever the Giants need a reliever to cover multiple frames.

  • Alexis Diaz RP | TEX

Reds' Alexis Diaz: Escapes with 23rd save

Diaz picked up the save Sunday against the Padres. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out one over one inning.

After blowing a save in his last outing, Diaz struggled to close out Sunday's contest. He entered the match with a 4-2 lead and retired the first two batters he faced but allowed a runner to score after back-to-back hits and stranded the would-be tying run at second to secure the save. Diaz now holds the fourth-most saves in MLB and owns a 2.19 ERA and 58:19 K:BB through 38 appearances (37 innings).

  • Padres' Adrian Morejon: Goes three scoreless in first start

Morejon did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two hits and two walks over three scoreless innings against the Reds. He struck out one.

Morejon made his first start since 2021 in place of Yu Darvish (illness) and was stretched out to three frames after going fewer than two innings in each of his first four appearances of the season. The outing was a strong bounceback for the 24-year-old, who allowed three runs in his last appearance after having not allowed a run in his first three big-league games in 2023. If Darvish is forced to miss extended time, Morejon could receive another starting look; however, it's likely he'll remain in the pen for San Diego.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Logs 14th save

Iglesias picked up the save Sunday against the Marlins. He struck out one over a clean inning.

Iglesias tallied his second consecutive perfect inning and has now converted on 12 of his 14 save opportunities in 2023. Though Iglesias has had an up-and-down season, allowing multiple runs in four of his 25 appearances while giving up no hits 14 times, Iglesias is tied for the fifth most saves in MLB since being activated from the injured list on May 5.

  • Nationals' Daniel Mengden: Lands MiLB deal with Washington

Mengden signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Sunday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Mengden began the season on a minor-league deal with the Royals, and he posted a 7.36 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in 14.2 innings over six appearances (three starts) at Triple-A Omaha before being released in late June. However, the 30-year-old was able to land a new contract a few days later.

  • Hunter Harvey RP | CHC

Nationals' Hunter Harvey: Grabs eighth save

Harvey picked up the save Sunday, setting the Phillies down in order to seal a 5-4 win.

Harvey seems to have a firm grasp on the closing job in Washington, as Kyle Finnegan pitched the eighth inning Sunday. The 28-year-old Harvey has delivered seven straight scoreless appearances (6.1 innings), allowing just two hits while punching out six in that span. He's now 8-for-13 in save chances with a 3.16 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB through 37 innings this season.
